I’ve been collecting books that focus on the design of logos/covers for japanese manga and I thought I’d make a thread about the books. Please note: I can’t actually read Japanese so most of this info is by looking at photos and using a translation software lol 😅

Recently I’ve been doing my hand-drawn sfx in Procreate and I’m really liking it! I feel a lot more comfortable drawing in there than I did in Clip Studio. And transferring the files from my ipad to my computer has been so much easier (and faster)! 🤩

I just realized I never revealed that I was handling the covers for J-Novel’s print release of “Private Tutor to the Duke’s Daughter” (manga) So yeah I’m handling the print release of this series as well! *image is of the digital cover

My stack of print manga I’ve worked on continues to grow 🤩 I think it’s almost at the point where I can’t stack them like this anymore lol I also have 6 print vols I’ve finished lettering that I don’t have copies of yet too! I wonder if I’ll hit 30 print vols by the ending of the year 👀 #manga

Took a break from work and decided to make a little list of titles I would love to work on design and/or lettering-wise (hint hint for anyone who licenses these 👀😆) There’s a lot I would love to work on but these are some of my biggest dreams. (I especially want to work on Harta and Aokishi stuff!)

While at AnimeNYC, I got my copies of Vermilion Stella and Crybaby Mermaid! I handled the lettering for both and also did the logo/front cover design of Vermilion Stella. 🤩 And then when I returned home I had Record Journey vol 2 waiting for me! (Which I did the lettering for of course) #manga

“The Villainesses are Unwavering” is being released by KWE. While I’m unfortunately not credited, I did handle the lettering for ch 1-9. (At least based on ch 1, it looks like my lettering with a few sfx changes…) bookwalker.com/series/32M4A... #manga #shojo

Usually when I’m lettering I look at either the jp pdf provided or an ebook version and use them as a reference to know what’s going on with the fonts but this title for some reason had neither so I bought a physical copy! Shout out to Suruga-ya for doing free shipping campaigns every weekend 😆

Record Journey volume 1 is out in English now. The Japanese volumes have super cool book design, so I wanted to see how they compare. The biggest visual difference is the gloss finish. Colors appear much brighter, and there's less texture in the image compared to the Japanese matte dust jacket.

Japanese and English editions of the manga Record Journey volume 1. It shows two women standing in a record store. The Japanese edition is on the left, English on the right. The Japanese edition is a matte finish with duller colors. The English edition has a glossy finish and bright colors.

The back covers of the English and Japanese volumes of Record Journey.

Closeup comparing the corners of both front covers. Texture and color differ.
