Day 5: Pikmin #pikmin #npiktober26

He knows this, of course. But he has always, always, always tried to keep it from happening. Each time it has — and there have been times; no one is perfect — has cut worse than a physical blow, ripped out a part of his heart and squeezed it in front of him, let the blood drip down onto the stones.

And the Pikmin still throw away their lives for him.

It must be a different kind of existence, he thinks. Some reason that it doesn’t feel like as much of a sacrifice for them. A worship of death, perhaps, or a single shared mind. It can’t possibly be any of the more romantic explanations — they can’t love him that much; he couldn’t even imagine it.

But the Pikmin do throw away their lives for him.

Olimar knows that he loves the Pikmin. Has known this, for a long time. It’s why it hurts when he fails them like that. To that extent. They’re like children, he thinks: their little glimmers of individuality are so, so beautiful. He can’t help but to want to tend those sparks.

The Pikmin would throw away their lives for him.

But Olimar will protect them, as much as he possibly can.
