After reading an article describing the tortuous process of creating a usable and productive research prompt in AI, my librarian brain wondered what the point it. I have spent 30 years getting better at that and, to be honest, that is the fun stuff (OK, maybe that is the librarian brain in me).

I do a story hour in the college library I direct for a preschool class from our on campus day care. We have a great time & the college students love watching us troop through the library. It's the most fun I have all day.

Most descriptions of how it can be used for research or writing seem, to me, to require so much work to do effectively as well as follow-up checking. I'd rather put the energy into doing the work myself. But I'm pretty old - year 34 of being an academic librarian.

Jew with a PhD in early Christian theology here. Academic study of religion is essential for understanding all of human history and culture. And I never read the NT before a college class. That was not in the Bible in my house.

Musk spends a large part of his time fomenting violence & spreading the same hateful ideology that motivated some of the deadliest shootings & attacks ever to happen on American soil. It is that fact, not the cars he builds or the rockets he launches, that ought to define his place in public life.

AI "enhancement" from major database vendor. Sounds more like "Avoid Reading this Document" to me. "With Ask This Document, users can ask questions about a single article to clarify concepts, summarize findings, examine key points, and quickly surface information most relevant to their research"

I have been an academic librarian for 34 years - 24 of them as a director. It is devastating to me that when I retire I will leave a small college library so pervasively underresourced. And I struggle with feeling guilty & responsible despite being told I am not. I feel what I feel.
