Western commentators: But the Syrian rebels don't believe in liberal or democratic values; religion is what guides them. Me: cuz every other nation in the region (Israel included) is guided by liberal democratic values, right? And all the Western-led regime changes are bastions of freedom, right?

Grandma, aching beyond measure knowing that you are gone; I wasn't ready for this. But grateful for the many precious moments we've had together as you reclaimed childlike wonder and sweetness; grateful for your love. Elizabeth Klaczyk z"l. 1931-2024

This wrecks me—every single time.

Sentimental Moment or Why Did the Baguette Cross the Road?

Don't fill up on bread
I say absent-mindedly
The servings here are huge

My son, whose hair may be
receding a bit, says
Did you really just
say that to me?

What he doesn't know
is that when we're walking
together, when we get
to the curb
I sometimes start to reach
for his hand

The period of the 2nd Jewish Temple (516 BCE – 70 CE) is a veritable wild west of the Jewish religious imagination and practice, revealed by the prolific creation of texts and competing canons, much of which did not make the final edit that is the present-day TaNaKh.

Starter packs are genius, but I was surprised there wasn't a list of them for people to find. So I built it: blueskydirectory.com/starter-pack... The website monitors the packs being shared and adds the ones it finds to the database. Missed your stater pack? Message me and I'll get it added.

Before reciting the Mourner's Kaddish, the names of those remembering a departed loved one were read aloud. The Budgie, clearly puzzled, whispered a wee bit too loudly, 'Holy crap, a lot of people died in the shul this week!' I bravely held in my giggles.

My point: most people are decent and abhor violence, and yet it is easier to misleadingly highlight a few of the most toxic members of a group to marginalize the whole of that society. 4/4

This was at the height of the 2nd Intifada; tensions were high, and everyone was afraid. And while we all saw footage later of idiots taking joy in the attack, the 1000s of people (Jewish and Muslim) I encountered that day were horror-stricken. 2/4

Today is #WorldRefugeeDay. 120 million people are presently displaced, forced to flee from their homes, living in camps, or on dangerous migratory journeys. Welcoming others is more than giving money; it is providing a home and creating a welcoming space.
