But inside my heart, I find my work own past work alien and larger than life to me now. The words I'd written, I no longer remember their toil, the shape of them against my tongue, mind and body. They might as well be written by a creature of another plane. So I despair, without memory, without hope

The muse will come again, I know this intellectually. That I have survived droughts far worse than these, both metaphysical and natural, that the garden now so arid will find within itself to bloom again.

Catching measles does not make your immune system stronger… it does the exact opposite. It can wipe out your immunity (both natural and vaccine related) to all kinds of diseases. It’s a deadly and disabling disease that we know how to prevent. Get your vaccine. It saves lives.

I'm very called these days to make stuff around my work; inspirations, where I began and what I do, analysis and what not. perhaps not the best writerly thing to do, to pull back the curtain too much, but I think I will do it

I maintain that the best retellings draw blood. they are intentional and precise, finding just the right bone to slide under. They are necrotic abberations, wearing the skin of something you loved once. Above all, they are not afraid to fail

just sob fascinated by the politicks of retelling, I recognise I yap about this a lot but there's something so naked about returning to a beloved story with a knife

I will let you in on a secret ... not a secret, really, but I wish more people were in on it. The poetry in @thedeadlands.com is the best. Or maybe it just suits me the best. You decide, eh? psychopomp.com/deadlands/is...

Rukman Ragas is an absolutely unparalleled voice on sensual violence and the intimate violation of colonialism. The last line made my chest tight. A truly astounding poem.

my favorite story i’ve written (“revolutions, as told by a humble rice farmer”) is out in @podcastle.org! 🥹😭 referencing tang dynasty poetry it asks “what if we focused on this RANDOM RICE FARMER instead of the empire??” it’s a deconstruction of nationalism & v queer podcastle.org/2026/08/11/p...
poster with the words “revolutions, as told by a humble rice farmer”, “fantasy”, “3500 words”, “history from the bottom-up, emperors get decapitated, but we keep farming rice” “@thelialao”

on the left side are picture of rice paddies and on the right side are two men wearing hanfu

Yeah! And the movie is only interested in him and his regret, which felt like a baffling choice

It had the sheen of a [insert country the America has destabilised] war veteran movie, with a weirdly revisionist leaning (Oh Poor Me have caused the fall of the utopian civilisation of the Bronze Age).

I do not understand how an epic that is basically travel, eat, fuck, rinse and repeat became so de-sexed and puritan. This is unfortunately not about a complicated man, for Odysseus is a simple man with one want. Interpreting Odysseus solely as traumatised war veteran felt very American.

Rukman Ragas | ருக்மன் @rukmanragas.com · 09/08/2026
The Odyssey, while visually quite stunning, felt oddly Christian/Puritan in its sensibilities. I might write up in detail later, but several of the narrative choices felt bizarre to me; Odysseus entire personality being Wifeguy, Circe stripped of allure, and the ride off into sunset.

Love Zendaya but this is the thinnest written MJ I've seen across every adaptation I've seen (which ain't much TBF, just two cartoon series, and the other movies)
