The thing is that there is so much animosity towards Murakami (and with some reason, his work is certainly not for everyone, as much as its popularity would lead you to believe), but what made me be at peace with me liking him so much is that David Gatten absolutely adores the guy.

Does anyone know of a site that allows writing on film that is a bit more esoteric/personal/literary if you will? Even the wildest ideas, I'm willing to throw my shot around (hell, if you say New Yorker I'll try it). I'm just so out of the loop, that I'd love some guidance.

A new book, OTHER WORLDS THAN THESE (T3), is published today. It's the final book of the Talisman trilogy, co-written with my old buddy, Peter Straub. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

I know it's not kosher to say things like this, but with every day I feel that religion has done more harm than good as an overall sum. It's okay to have beliefs, but I don't think you need an organization to administer those beliefs. Every institution is corrupt. Each and every one.

Updated my list of films that I'm trying to find to watch, mostly experimental/short films that had very limited windows of streaming or actual release, some of them confined to museums. Any pointers or actual links/files you can contact me on the DMs. letterboxd.com/jaimegrijalb...

The Resident Evil movie was fun. Gotta love a film that makes fanboys angry while also being made with love for the franchise and not contempt (suck it P.W.S. Anderson!)

Last night, in a sort of fugue state, I wrote 2000 words on Donnie Darko. It's not at all about Donnie Darko though. I don't know if this is publishable or not, but I need to have this out into the world as a way of purging my body and mind off it. Hopefully it can find a home. It's raw and personal

A tribute to Patricio Guzmán through Raúl Ruiz diary entries I’ve translated. The first mention is on March 11th, 1997. The festival mentioned must be one of the first editions of FIDOCS, which he founded. The first documentary film festival in Chile that exists to this day!

Patricio Guzmán was probably Chile’s most important filmmaker after Raúl Ruiz. The way in which his reportage style documentary weaves into his more memory-related exercise is probably the most impressive shift in someone’s career that feels natural and part of natural evolution. RIP.

Ken Loach’s segment about the Chilean coup with the exiled Chilean was also good. It was about how 9/11 isn’t just about 2001, and how that has overshadowed our experience in Chile.

It's incredible that the third Star Trek episode that I've seen and it's the third that has to do with supernatural mind powers of some kind and not an actual factual sci-fi thing. Incredible!

I had no idea that today was the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. Which is weird because today I decided to start watching the original Star Trek series! It's fun! There's been more mind control and mind magic stuff than lasers and spaceships, but it's really fun!

Schoeburn’s latest has apparently flopped badly (critically speaking), which is both bad and good. Bad because we need more trans artists, but good because Schoeburn is a fucking annoying ass person who thinks that can shelter behind their opinions and responsibility just because they’re trans.
