That Oviedo call changed the game. The non call on Genge could've potentially made a major difference. If TMO is going to back that far to give some a YC and ignore what Genge did. Then how is that fair? 2/2

TMO consistency. First half, Puma's line break. Puma 9 was trying to run support line. Before knock on Genge was clearly grabbing 9's shoulder slowing him. No review, nothing. Should've been a pen & a YC. Oviedo makes a slightly dodgy clean and 30+ phases later TMO goes back/reviews. 1/2

Down 19-17, 2-man advantage, crowd baying for blood and ... T Pumas go for a standard exit from 22. Why? Run at them, that is exactly what they did to Scotland in November so why change tactics. England were ready to fold and Argentina decided to start playing safe. Cost them the game.

The only player that showed well in that putrid period ... and I can't believe I am typing this: Gray.

Maybe it was all the travel bc that simply was not good enough in that first 55 mins. Against a more organized team Scotland would've been 3-4 scores down.

That first 55 minutes were absolutely putrid.

ABs comfortable winners but still work to do. Ireland better in 2nd half but always an uphill battle after awful first half. Berry was .... poor.

Salamander semi colon @rugbyfan.bsky.social · 18/07/2026
Prendergast actually had a decent half. Fair play.
000
Salamander semi colon @rugbyfan.bsky.social · 18/07/2026
Also, you can see the issue with playing Prendergast. ABs are more than happy to run down his channel. When they do it forces Ireland to bring in an extra player to help Prendergast. That narrows up Ireland's defense and leave space/gaps out wide.
020
Salamander semi colon @rugbyfan.bsky.social · 18/07/2026
So far ... ABs well on top. Ireland struggling to contain them. ABs routinely over the gain line. McCloskey had his poorest half I can remember & Gibson Park giving him some good competition for the sucky award. Ireland have to slow ABs' ball, if they don't this could get ugly.

Ireland after getting that try went full Scotland on the kick off. Never go full Scotland on the kick off.

U20s showed real heart but it should never have been that close. Clearly better team, more physical & dynamic. Only thing that kept Wales in that game was Scotland making poor decisions & basic errors. Joe Roberts MOTM & superb Captain's effort. Need to tidy up silly mistakes going forward.

4 tries in less than 10 minutes. I'm gonna go out on a Limb here: the red card didn't matter. Baby Boks are just so much better than anyone else in this comp.

Yes, Scotland made progress v Boks, however, this cannot be another false dawn. Scotland need to make a mark in the 6Ns. IMHO that means beating Ireland at Murrayfield and finishing at least 2nd in the table. If they don't do that & do their usual 3rd or 4th what progress have, they truly made?

U20s best performance in years. Dalziel stood out again, had great tournament. Locks, props filled w/exciting youngsters. A back 3 w/2 players in Kelly/McHaffie good ball in hand & good in air. A coaching team filled w/recently retired players. Led by Laidlaw, with Pyrgos & Weir as well.

Standouts v Boks: ST his best game v top 4 team. M. Fagerson, best game for Scotland. Physical & everywhere. White, superb game. Cummins, bullied Boks' locks at times. Travesty he didn't get Lions' mins in a test. Bayliss ...searing pace gave Boks fits. FR, rusty but still excellent.

Composure, composure, composure. It is has killed Scotland for years and continues to do so. No need to for all the panicky offloads that close in. Take your time, go through phases and they would score. Frustrating.
030
Salamander semi colon @rugbyfan.bsky.social · 11/07/2026
Cannot get over Brousset allowing Venter to carry his Lock in the air. 100% dangerous play & a penalty. Scotland couldn't go near that situation bc to do so could've resulted in serious foul. That opened up the field once Lock landed on his feet. Fucking amateur hour reffing from Brousset.

Fiji have taken major steps backwards. England have been ok but honestly haven't needed to do much. Real shame given obvious talent Fiji has. England will get a better test v Pumas. This game is a glorified training run.
000
Salamander semi colon @rugbyfan.bsky.social · 11/07/2026
Even though it is HT, Fiji have still managed to knock the ball on and give away a daft pen. Honestly impressive.

How the fuck did Ireland get to play Japan in Australia? This comp feels set up for the bigger teams already. Not good.

Fiji is not even bothering. England have done next to fuck all to get 4 tries. Worst Fijian performance I can recall. Truly awful.

Salamander semi colon @rugbyfan.bsky.social · 11/07/2026
Classic example of two-tiered reffing. ABs "win" pen by Jordan on a jackel, just one problem. Savea clear as day on wrong side impacting clean out. Italy snag a jackal w/player lying to the side not impacting cleaners at all. Pen to ABs. Tired of Refs giving "better" teams benefit of doubt.

Scotland have to be ready to get punched in the face from the first contact v Boks. If not, they will get their doors blown off. Basics, have to be right. Exits, cleans at ruck, line out & solid game management. There will be chances to open it up but only if Scotland weather the early storm.

Watched the Squidge preview video for Boks v England. Had no idea they'd decided to enter comedy realm. Again, that channel used to be really good. Then once they went "viral" in rugby spaces. They catered to their biggest audience: England fans. Get it, however, videos are a tough watch.

Hastoy looked a completely different player than he does playing for La Rochelle. Bizarre, feels like a certain ex Munster player has kept him caged. Hastoy was a revelation in that game.

Not bad. Eliminate some of the basic errors and that is a game down to the wire. OBL and company crushed NZ in the scrum. Real shame Scotland didn't take more advantage of that. Dalziel few young fella moments but overall excellent, again. Lad has sky is limit potential.

U20s with basic, basic errors killing them. Prime example; deep in 22 toss awful, high risk offload, then lose line out to a throw to no one and then to round it off give up a daft offside pen. Cannot win against better team making that many errors.

No Finn no win. Carreras lacks control, vision and pressure moments that are taken for granted when Finn plays. Bath and Prem fans can tell us all Finn isn't the straw that stirs the drink but we know he is.

Josh Bayliss has had a superb season for Bath. Outshone all his more hyped counterparts: Pepper, Underhill et al. Suspect if he were English qualified, he'd be in discussion of Prem player of the season. Hope Scotland give him more playing time. Love to see him given a chance at 8.

Good enough but plenty to work on. Bizarre ref decisions & Glasgow unforced errors made game far closer than it needed to be. Horne, ST and Steyn were superb. Lancaster needs to kick longer & to pick his spots better with grubbers. Also, Glasgow 2 score lead with the wind? Kick it more FFS.

Yet again Prem wildly entertaining but the defense "effort" for most teams is so poor. Prime example: lost count how many times seen players after an initial break fail to scramble and instead just jog aimlessly.

Ulster fans moaning about Rowe being the wrong side of the ruck on final sequence. Meanwhile George Horne had to enter the 110 meter hurdles to avoid Ulster forwards lying on the wrong side at rucks multiple times.

Starmer being blamed solely for Labour's demise ... Blair deserves as much blame if not more. He is POS that brought people like Mandelson in etc. In another world Labour would've had Tony Benn as a leader & a PM. In that world things would've been considerably better.
