Our paper on the subcellular proteome of Paulinella is finally out! A possible oxygen-scavenging mechanism to enhance RuBisCO carboxylation highlights how protists can reveal unexpected solutions to challenges in photosynthesis. Big kudos to everyone involved! @evanowack.bsky.social

Yikes! Scientists are pushing back on this and I totally agree with their criticism, but what I worry about the most here is that others outside of academic science (e.g., in Silicon Valley) will veer into their typical reductionist mindset and declare, “we’ve solved papers!” 🤮

Fantastic workshop on spatial proteomics organized by @rosswaller.bsky.social at the Natural History Museum in London. Was an honor to be invited to meet and discuss LOPIT with tons of new folk all working in different protist systems. We’ll see how the field evolves in the next 5 years!

Our paper describing two new photosynthetic Paulinella species is out today in JPhycol! This is the kind of work I love to do and even it though took many years to finish, we had a lot of fun stomping around together in the marsh! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... #protistsonsky

For @science.org , I wrote about brain-eating amoeba 🦠 and fascinating new research led by @katrinavelle.bsky.social which could help explain how the usually harmless pond-dweller ends up in the brain. www.science.org/content/arti...

Anyone by any chance have the OligoArrayAux program as a windows ZIP file laying around and willing to share? Needed to run on DECIPHER. All UNAFold websites are defunct and no mirrors exist 😕 #ProtistsOnSky
