Text: In the Ethiopian region of Tigray, there has officially been peace for 2.5 years, but many women still carry the pain of the war literally inside them. They were victims of horrific sexual violence by Ethiopian and Eritrean soldiers, who forced objects into their wombs with the intent to make them infertile. From rusty screws to nail clippers, even handwritten notes wrapped in plastic.

“It’s unknown how many women were affected,” says Tigrayan writer Birhan Mezgbo. She spoke with dozens of girls and women about their rapes and wrote a book about it. Many did not survive the mutilation. Others suffer in silence — out of shame, or because there is no clinic nearby. “Until the unbearable pain or severe infections eventually force them to seek hospital care — sometimes years later.”

If the Supreme Court deliberately softened their language to avoid provoking a direct constitutional confrontation, then the rule of law itself was placed on the altar, not just Garcia. A judiciary that cannot or will not enforce its rulings against executive defiance becomes toothless.

The world order as we knew it has been upended. It is upsetting and for the life of me I cannot understand what the US Administration is trying to achieve. I mean: sure, we can disagree on values. Let's be honest: we always have. Generally, right wing parties in Europe were left compared to even US Dems. Also: it is fair that the US demands that Europe ups its game. It has over relied on the US to address literally ANYTHING that went on the world, including its own safety. But why on earth combine that with such a hostile stance to literally everyone that used to be a friend and instead, befriend Putin. It makes no sense whatsoever.

The only reason I can think of: it is all they know. People like Trump, Vance, and Hegseth are not statesmen - they’re culture warriors. Their entire rise to power has been fuelled by internal division, grievance politics, and fighting “the enemy” - whether that’s liberals, the deep state, women or immigrants. They apply the same tactics internationally because they have no other playbook. They view allies as weak and transactional. They see international diplomacy as a zero-sum game (if others benefit, the U.S. must be losing).

They don’t understand soft power and mistake bullying for strength. The talks between the EU and Mexico, Canada and India show the world is already moving to work around US - will the government change course before it’s too late?

Trump’s trade war on the world isn’t just about tariffs—it’s undermining the very system that keeps the US afloat. By eroding global trust in the dollar & antagonizing foreign debt holders, he’s risking economic dominance. If the world moves away from USD, the fallout will hit everyone.
