I get why people are viewing this as a Culture War thing, but I think it's best to view it as a trial balloon. If they get permission from SCOTUS to deport a US citizen who is a sitting member of Congress, they'll be able to deport any adversary or critic for any reason. And they absolutely will.

Part of the problem is the ethos in traditional political reporting is there should be no judgement, so Man-Bites-Dog becomes the guiding star. Soft-spoken Biden insults votes? HUUUUUUGE news. Trump posting insanely racist s**t? Noting to report on here; dude does that kind of stuff all the time.

Fwiw, my business take of Braiden Bell is that the NBA isn't some random employer. It's a sports org who's players are spokespeople against racial bigotry, and therefore a frequent target of that bigotry. Not hiring bigots to be your spokespeople is a good, solid buzz PR & practice.

I don't actually have an opinion of Braiden Bell as a man, but I do always find it curious when people asked to be excused of past bigotry because of "everything [they've] done since," but don't see a need to describe said everything.
