Peatland restoration at Meenletterbale! We installed 2 check dams to slow water leaving the bog and keep the peat wetter. We also cleared scrub to prepare for more dams in the future. Thanks to Green Sod Ireland and all our volunteers!

🌸 Special mention to our @interreg.eu BUFFER+ Demo site. Hundreds of Sundews have appeared across reprofiled banks & areas of previously bare peat protected with geotextile. This is a positive sign that the wet, acidic conditions characteristic of healthy blanket bog are being restored.

We visited farms in #Donegal with constructed wetlands. By channelling dirty water into the wetland, contaminants settle to be absorbed by plants & are trapped in roots & soil. This helps reduce land-spreading costs, protect water quality, & creates wildlife habitats. 🧵👇 #MNbS #Wetlands #Farming
