Pretty good news, and very pleasing to know that all those reading Benedict MacDonald's books have been sponsoring this indirectly. Really enjoyed Rebirding and Cornerstones! Recommend those. Dug up the pic form my reading blog. can't recommend the manga to #booksky, the others are pretty good.
7 excellent books with a disappointing manga about cats. includes Rebirding by Benedict Macdonald

Recently stumbled across this new bridge underpass; well used even though brand new, helps traffic along above and below the bridge. Love the fact that it is not grey, like most infrastructure. Made my day.
Cantilever bridge in white with rusty red 2-way cycle path going underneath, with one of several cyclists we saw in under a minute. Some greenery in the foreground and canal in the back.

Here are our bikes from a few weeks ago, visiting the F1 races a day early to enjoy the amazing bike parking. This football field is 2 the size that fits on the foto, and just one of many created for the racing weekend. Mostly converted carparks along the beach...
ominous clouds overseeing 2 bikes on a football pitch full of 'staples' i.e. rows and rows of low bike parking.

Great drawing! Wild to think these massive birds were around in the Netherlands as recently as the Middle Ages! Seems we have been restoring nature at scale and may have room for them once more, as the @ark-rewildingnl.bsky.social illustration shows.

Great pictures, looks wonderful, but not seeing the tangible progress one would expect from a budget of 190M pounds a year. What did 50M in research and advocating get us, and why is there no bucket for buying land? First time I read the RSPB annual report and quite frankly I am baffled.
Bar-graph showings RSPB charitable expenditure including 5 million to the mysterious ' supporter care'. 22M to Education and 'inspiring support' on top a hefty 42.8M already going to 'cost of raising funds' that is not included in this graph. 50-odd million to Research, policy & advisory; almost the main expense. 61,6M to managing RSPB nature reserves. ZERO to land purchases. The spend is growing but the report seems very anecdotal as to what it delivered.

Not a fan of Formula 1 racing, but gotta love the logistics behind getting 100.000 people a day to a seaside town by bike and public transport. Massive #bikesky parking! Both on the football fields in the dunes, and on the normal seaside parking for cars along the shoreline.
Football field full of temporary bikeracks in numbered rows. Mirrored on the other side, but that did not fit in the picture. Two bikes take the first spots with an ominous sky behindTent camp for the volunteers at the event occupying another entire football pitch. Again not even half fitting on the photo. Path through dunes in the foreground, we saw a lot of people carrying sleeping gear to the tents, and folks in staff outfits and lanyards returning to the tents. Fenced off logistical area with the racetrack in the background. Huge rain showers over the sea.

Here's the picture to clarify the logic behind the Kennel Club owning large estates.
Wooden sign besides a slate track going into the shooting estate disappearing around a corner in the distance with grazed hills in the background. Green but few flowers, not very biodiverse. Sign reads: 'THe kennel club; making a difference for dogs. Emblehope and Burngrange Estate. A center of excellence for dog training'

Pretty absurd when you're not from a hunting community.

25: while dropping off my spring reading I picked up a book I've seen fly past #booksky. Took it on holiday and am now hooked on the series. So second hand books sell new books too. Firstly because I'll be reading more by this author, and also because I got a fancy edition as a gift for a friend.
Second hand copy of Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch with its gorgeous black (illustrated map) & red (title & Thames) cover sitting on top of a gift-wrapped fancy version of the book with sprayed edges, the kind of thing I am a sucker for.
