Looking at you looking at me. . . Another Zombie!

I haven't drawn a zombie in quite a while. I used to quite often. At one point they were my New Years Day drawing, but then they just got soooooo popular I felt the need to drop em.

A convention sketch from the last time I was at NYCC. Poison Ivy with the idea of making her look like she was growing a bouquet from her hands.

MARAMA snuck under my radar, Great little period film where the monsters are too real and very much among us still.

I majored in book illustration in college, and there's a part of me that would still like to do classic illustrated books. I did this as the final project in my last year at Sheridan. #KidLitArtPostcard

A new collection of the great @hackintimseeley.bsky.social 's Imaginary Fiends is coming from Image soon. Figure this is a great opportunity to reshare some of the covers I drew for it

There's a thing going around Bluesky where you post a vampire who isn't Dracula. In his latest newsletter, @jimzub.com posted a link to a news story from when he was a part of a Vampire the Masquerade group, so. . . www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVyi...

Kirsten Stewart from UNDERWATER. A seemingly under-appreciated deep sea monster flick from 2020. B&W watercolour with some airbrush application of the same media.

The Doom That Came to Gotham Batman packed a pistol. He was more in the pulp adventurer mode than crime fighter.

I loved the visuals surrounding The Batman Who Laughs, but never got 'round to reading any of it. Haven't seen anything with it for ages, so I guess it's run its course.

Killer Croc is always fun to draw when you lean more into a monster than a guy in a suit look. I'd love to go further than this, too.

A Hellboy drawing from a while back. I liked it enough to start a painting from it, but after doing most of the foggy forest environment felt it was just too static and abandoned it.

I saw this piece, by the great artist Brad Holland, in a few places in response to the WSJ insisting illustration isn't art:

He has no clue what it is, which is no surprise, but his loudly demonstrating his ignorance always has the unfortunate rippling effect of his followers braying his stupidity as their own.

I think I posted about this before, but Garner's ring from Superman is very different from Hal's in LANTERNS. It tells me that a untrustworthy someone who's been insisting they're a Guardian has it and a lantern unless we see those elements given to Gardner in his origin

Haven't drawn The Ever-Lovin' Blue-Eyed Thing in a bit. I just found a small stash of pieces I'd forgotten I drew for the @heroinitiative.bsky.social I think I'd planned to do 20 or so total, but work/life happened. Hopefully the idiot's tariffs go away soon so I can ship this and the others down.

@realgdt.bsky.social on how doing the work gives you opportunities to think during the process:
Guillermo del Toro, Filmmaker
The three quarters of the process that gave you the chance to think of the idea that people don't think about without that process. Meaning, Al can get you to the middle really fast, but there's a dialectic with the process that gets you to that top 10%. I'll give you an example with the Pale Man.
We sculpted it as an old man, with a face. And then I said, Let's take out the face. This happened because I saw a photo of a manta ray and the poster for Don Coscarelli's Phantasm. That combination, which happened at two different times during a week or a month, are not permutations that are chemically part of an equation. They are alchemy. And then I said, Take out the face, and then I said, Let's put the eyes on the hands. This triangulation happens because I spent a month or two months living with the idea of this creature. And it's not linear.
Al is like a super-fast engine that makes semi-sentient permutations of things that are already done. Creation is things that have never been done. Coming to exist.
And the second thing is the loss of the apprenticeship that one has as an artist. You're never a master; you're always an apprentice. This is a kinship I have with, for example, Chris Nolan. When he showed me The Odyssey, there's a scene when Matt Damon is floating in the stormy ocean and I asked him-because we were talking about practical effects, and how great it is and that we both always use a maquette or a model-and I asked him, How did you do it? He said, "We put him in a storm in the ocean."

He really wants to invade and annex us. The US's inability to remove this tyrant is an utter failure and suggests it never was a functioning democracy.

Creature From the Black Lagoon I've been lucky to have been asked three times to paint this particular Universal monster. I hope they can eventually pull off that remake they keep threatening, though it's kinda unnecessary.

First of the Big Picture pieces (an annual reward tier on my Patreon). Really enjoying translating more of my pencil drawing into the final work in this way. Love this East of West character design and was hoping someone would ask for her again after first drawing her for the Food Bank project.

Considering adding an easel to the studio. Preferably a solid hardwood H-frame one (with steel bolts over brass for durability if possible). The option to lay it horizontal would be a perk. Wheels are wholly optional for my needs. Any Canadian manufacturers or makers?

All imperial powers have a time as the unopposable juggernaut, until that war machine hits its limit, until the people stop supporting it, until the powerful loot the coffers making the whole system collapse. History rhymes, don't it? Men of the Shadows, REH From Dark Horse's Savage Sword
