This is great news for commuters passing through Chambers St (and hopefully in the future, for folks using other stops) A lot of our city's stations are 100 years old — they're built for a climate that didn't need AC units and can't support them.

In addition to preference, long-term ownership is a path to building wealth. But … you need wealth to buy a home. If this paradox continues, we’ll see a growing wealth gap that will only deepen inequality in the US, with low-income communities of color hit the hardest.

A lot of the homes built in the last few decades in NYC are rental units. But according to the Federal Bank, people prefer owning over renting by 4-1. The problem is that ownership is increasingly out of reach for New Yorkers. “Starter home” prices have increased 87% since 2009.
