A little WIP Wednesday, in hopes I might actually publish the next chapter of “In Suco Nasali, Veritas” before the end of September. 🤞🏼😬

“Ed! Dad!” Louis cried, upon spotting them.

“Note the order,” Stede observed wryly.

“Hush. I’m just taller. Easier to see.” But when Louis also moved to hug Ed first, there wasn’t much doubt who the favorite was. Ed gestured Stede to crowd into the hug as well, and Louis drew back in shock.

“You guys touch now?” he asked.

“What do you mean? We always touch!” Stede’s voice went a little shrill with the lie.

Louis sent a quick voice note to his sister. “Do Dad and Ed ever touch?”

Mere seconds later, she responded: “Hmmmm, I guess if they’re, like, drunk. I saw it once.”

“Are you two drunk?” Louis asked, doubtful.

“We would never!”

Louis side-eyed them, and turned his attention to the baggage carousel that had just started. “Sooooo, what changed with you two?”

“Ed and I… we’re a couple.”

“A couple of what?”

Well, there was the question of the hour, wasn’t it?

“No, he means we’re official,” Ed explained.

“Weren’t you always? I thought you were just being modest to protect my sensitive little kid eyes.”

Ed and Stede grinned at each other like they’d found their bank account balances suddenly had an extra zero at the end.

“Right! So, it won’t bother you if we… errr, hold hands? Kiss?”

“Pffft, ‘course not! I may be aro-ace, doesn’t mean the whole world is. Oh. Dad, your hand’s in Ed’s back pocket.”

“Well, my front pockets have my wallet and phone in them,” Ed reasonably countered.

“His back pocket looked lonely,” Stede offered at the same time.

“So weird,” Louis muttered.

“Oh, no! Your pocket’s eating my hand!” Which was a pretty good excuse for Stede to feel up Ed’s luscious ass.

“Nom, nom, nom!”

“Wait, is it too late to go back to non-touching?” Louis asked in a mortified whisper.

The kiddo and I were driving to school, and she’s said, “It’s ’Heathers’ Day!” then quoted Veronica’s diary entry with that date. I said, “No way, it’s Dickfuck day!” and quoted Ed’s and Izzy’s conversation. The we high-fived our fandom overlap.

Our family has started watching “Ted Lasso” season 4. No spoilers here! There is a running joke that Ted hates tea, and we always joke that maybe he doesn’t know you can add sugar. So, of course, in my mind, Ted will finally like it when he tries it with “a dollop of milk and seven sugars.”

I love how we’ve all decided that Ed’s sweet tooth extends far beyond the “seven sugars” tea. It’s canon! Furthermore, I like to think that he only gets to have sweet tea on the Revenge, because Izzy is that nagging spouse who won’t let Ed eat stuff that’s clearly bad for him.

Opinion: In “The Innkeeper,” S2E3, there’s no reason for Izzy to say they dumped Ed on an island, other continuing the dramatic tension of Ed being in limbo/comatose; i.e., we, the viewers, still believe a little longer that the Hornigold convo is real (although that lighting is a HUGE tip-off).

Lil WIP of chapter 9, In Suco Nasali, Veritas I am *certain* someone thought of this before, but I was remembering how my gay friends call each other girls’ names, as in: “Okay, settle down, Gina.” And I started thinking about “Who’s this Mary?” as a snide, gay-re:-gay comment. Thus:

Lucius, thrilled to be holding court, began. “So, there I was, a mere slip of a lad, farrrr too beautiful and talented to be languishing in the secretarial pool at BonneTech. I’d see this one,”—he jerked a thumb dramatically toward Stede—“sashaying past every day, with his fluffy hair, his clingy suits, and his fucking mauve ascots, and think, ‘Who’s this mary, then?’” He smirked, and paused for the usual laughter response. Ed started cracking his knuckles.

“Then one day, I got called up to the big show: personal assistant to the CEO! … ‘s son,” Lucius concluded drily. “Talk about a career dead end! No one’s ever going to promote the nepo-baby—sorry, Stede—or his P.A. No chance of marrying my boss, because I heard the guy’s straight as spaghetti.”

“That guy?” Archie asked with a laugh, pointing. “St-Stede Stede?”
