Sweet irony.. from a zine I made at my last hospital w/o Oxe (‘A Patient’s Guide to 1-1 Staff and Where to Find Them) - think my artistic rendition is pretty spot on. (This Oxevision is turned off… because of the argument I had with SABP ages ago…) @stopoxevision.bsky.social #madsky

At the end of the day we do have a duty to ourselves and to protect ourselves. If something that someone is doing is distressing to us, provided it’s not actually harmful, it’s our job to step away. Maybe this person needs to understand that. Regardless none of it is on you. 💗

Having seen your posts for a while you’ve always been conscientious of what you say, so I really don’t think any duty or responsibility sits with you here. I’m sure they’re struggling but it was unnecessary for them to say that to you and maybe just unkind?

You can’t possibly anticipate the triggers of a stranger who chooses to read your post. I feel for them, but… mental illness isn’t your fault but it is your responsibility. We can’t ask people not to speak freely (within reason) on the internet in fear that somebody somewhere may be distressed by it

Rowan (she/they) @rowanrises.bsky.social · 07/12/2024
Yeah, this sucks. It may well have been genuinely really triggering for them but you can’t hold the responsibility for that. Triggers can be literally anything, they’re individual to each person. We owe each other kindness and have responsibility to be mindful of what we post, but only to a point

Wow, this is a pretty stunning exercise in mental gymnastics. It’s amazing how much work people will do to justify the things that they don’t want to change. The conclusion comes first - the narrative follows. The system always resists change. For things to be better we have to start somewhere.

I wish A&Es had an actual protocol for supporting autistic people and had things like fidgets/earplugs/ear defenders available, because this is genuinely a hostile environment. There’s also very little structure to my day which I’m finding very difficult. #MadSky #AutisticSky

‘You get more autistic in hospital’ is something I’m finding very true so far. I’m stuck in A&E and it feels like my circuits are fried. I’ve not been this sensory-sensitive in a very long time. I think it’s because it’s so constant and out of control, and you just spend so much time waiting.

…just as I’d said would be necessary weeks ago. But now I’m stuck 1-1 in A&E until they find a bed. I seem to have hit the magic button that means they’re seeing me as ill and needing help rather than hysterical. Which is nice but I don’t trust it will last.

Having my stick now is part of me - I coordinate it to my outfits, have a bit of fun with it. I can do a bit without my stick but even if I don’t necessarily need it when I leave the house.. I definitely do by the time I’m getting back! It gets easier. Love from someone further along 💗

When I first used my stick I felt the same. I’m 5-6 years in now and you do get used to the impostor syndrome. Remember that using a stick is a pain in the arse - takes up one of your hands all the time - and if it helps you more than it hinders; that’s because you need it.

Coroner calls for government to take ownership of suicide risk from poisonous substance
An inquest into the death of Hannah Aitken has found that she died at her supported living accommodation for people with autism taking a poisonous substance which she ordered online.

Really saddened to hear about Hannah Aitken’s death. From the info provided I’m pretty certain it’s what my sister used in the same way. Yet another PFD for the same substance, yet more reluctance from public bodies to do anything about it, just as we experienced. And yet another autistic girl lost.

Happy birthday to me! Spending the day by the log fire and going out to unlimited kbbq in the evening. I've been in Tuscany all week (I found Florence overrated but more rural Italy incredible) so it's great to be home. Brought home some lovely olive oil and balsamic vinegar! Bliss.

In fact, I believe Wallace himself was a victim of CSA. These are the things you take to rehabilitative therapy and probation reports, not what you use to defend someone online. But regardless of all of this, his behaviour went unchecked. That's rape culture, not autism. Simple as.
000
Rowan (she/they) @rowanrises.bsky.social · 30/11/2024
Autistic people are significantly more likely to be victims of sexual offences than they are perpetrators. Wallace was in a position of power, with lower support needs - if he is autistic at all. He is really not the group we're talking about when we discuss vulnerable sex offenders.
110
Rowan (she/they) @rowanrises.bsky.social · 30/11/2024
Autism can absolutely affect your vulnerability and leave you displaced, which can both be a contributing factor to criminality. Lack of social understanding can also contribute to sexual offences (and definitely to being caught where others wouldn't be.) It doesn't make it acceptable.

Men are more likely to be sexually assaulted than they are to be falsely accused. And if a man tells me he has been sexually assaulted then yes; my predisposition is to believe him. This is not the ‘own’ you think it is. Take your internalised misogyny to therapy and out my comment section x

Rowan (she/they) @rowanrises.bsky.social · 27/11/2024
I don’t really see where I asked for that contribution - and the amount of false reports is vanishingly low compared to the amount of assaults there are. If you see a woman talk about their story and criticise the system and your only response is ‘but some women lie’ you have some stuff to unpack.

Rowan (she/they) @rowanrises.bsky.social · 27/11/2024
I really don’t know why you felt this was the appropriate comment to leave? Are you insinuating that my story is false? Did you read what the thread was about or just feel the need to chime in because you saw the term ‘false accusations”?

It likely would have been through CICA which reviews police file and awards based on civil burden of proof. As I said, people don’t do this for fun. This isn’t some ‘gotcha’ of one woman who did cheat the system - which she did apparently for money; not for fun.

NHS MH crisis care in a nutshell: Your options… - wait months or years for 6-12 sessions of CBT or maybe DBT/EMDR if you want some variety - go to a&e or safe haven if you’re about to die (and get a free PD dx included) - throw meds at it - get detained (or imprisoned - YMMV) perfect 👌

I always 🚩 at the word dependency as it is often thinly veiled ‘stop being needy’. I do understand Samaritans have limited call handlers but I don’t quite see what risk they’re managing by blocking people from calling. Risk of people using it as advertised, as ‘always there’ and 24/7?

This is so true from Jay, I have more than I can possibly report if I want to look after my own health. It seems from my anecdotal evidence that so many #autistic people are now being labelled as having #EUPD and services appear to use both labels as a reason not to support people.

I completely understand. As stated at Fern’s ‘sunlight is the best disinfectant’ and I do think that #OpenJustice is so needed for exactly that. When these systems have secrecy, they have even less accountability. The court of public opinion holds power. But, of course, it’s always complicated.

Yes please. Aspie supremacy/‘evolved human’ rhetoric is so exhausting. Yes I am fine with being autistic, no it doesn’t make me lesser, but it is a disability even with lower support needs. Many people don’t even understand what high support needs would look like in practicality. Sick of it!

I’ve heard the term palliative psychiatry for SMI which maybe is what they mean? But I will say that ‘nothing more they can do’ sounds like an NHS lack of services problem (and maybe a bit of a cop out) rather than there being no options at all for you x
