@richdmay.bsky.social got another game to add to the wish list.
Discussion post for a game called ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs on Steam. Post calls the game "too feminine" and complains about not being the target audience. He says he'll wait for another developer to "give respects to the men population".

"I am Jane Doe. We are all Jane Doe until no one is.

Because women are still being asked what they drank, what they wore, why they went there, why they trusted him, why they didn't leave sooner, why they didn't report immediately, why their story changed under trauma.

Meanwhile, the question that should matter most keeps getting buried.

Why are we still looking for ways toblame womenfor whatwas fine to them? A woman does not have to be sober enough, modest enough, cautious enough, quiet enough, believable enough, or "perfect" enough to deserve bodily autonomy.

I support Jane Doe. And I support every woman who has ever been picked apart instead of protected.

Until "Jane Doe" is no one."

This is one that chokes me up. There's another kind of scene where I've had to leave the room, but that's partly because I've lived it and partly because it sometimes creeps into my job.

Dude, seriously?! I don't even know this guy beyond he's another neighbor. He says he got my number from the jailbird, which already has me feeling wary of him. And in my experience, guys like this aren't the kind to pleasure a woman. Pro tip: this is NOT the way to get a woman.

@richdmay.bsky.social the dangers of relying on ChatGPT.
Micro SF/F by O. Westin:

The sigil was drawn in salt and ash, the candles lit at the pentagram points, the incantation declaimed.

There was a shimmer - a demon appeared.

"Curious. What ritual is this?"

"I got it from ChatGPT. I included all protections in my prompt!"

"I see," the demon said and stepped out of the sigil.

@jasonkingsleyobe.bsky.social We often hear about blacksmiths, and I'm sure some folks know about bladesmiths, but it would be interesting to see a video about the other smiths that helped keep medieval life running.
Image of a metal worker at his workbench with the watermark Ancienthistoryexplorers

Text reads: Not every smith swung a sledge at red-hot iron. Whitesmiths perfected tin, pewter, and silver with files, lathes, and solder - making utensils, lanterns, and mirror-bright finishes. Brownsmiths shaped brass and copper bells, vessels, hinges, and chandeliers. From late medieval towns to 19th-century cities, these quiet masters made the world shine - then passed their craft to today's coppersmiths and restorers. (Shining star emoji)

@jasonkingsleyobe.bsky.social got any good stories on how your equine friends got their names?
Image of an 18th-century thoroughbred racehorse.

Text reads: "Potoooooooo or Pot-8-os (foaled in 1773) was a famous 18th-century thoroughbred racehorse who defeated some of the greatest racehorses and later became an influential sire.

jacobtheloofah: no but the best part is how he got the name: his name was originally "potatoes," and his owner, willoughby bertie, told the stable lad who helped him to write the horse's name on a feed bin. the boy misheard it as, literally "pot-eight-o's" and wrote it with 8 o's. bertie found it so funny that he kept that as the horse's name.

agentotter: This is the most beautiful horse-related story I've ever heard."

Just been to the doctor and found out that the dose for the Metformin was not what it should be. Apparently, 500mg pills should be taken twice a day, not once a day. So for 10-11 months, my A1c hasn't budged much and I'm still pre-diabetic. The doc was wanting to say it was a waste of time and meds, but I pointed out that I lost 30lbs and I'm not diabetic. I might not be much better, but I'm not worse, and rather than wasting time, it may have bought me time to get into a position where I could afford the right dose. I'm now on 750mg extended release, which the doc said is where I should have been started at.

@jasonkingsleyobe.bsky.social What would they have called something like PTSD in medieval times? How would they have handled someone struggling with it and related issues?
Baba Jaan @BabaJaan8888: "My grandfather survived -insert a dozen traumatizing things here- I wonder how he'd react if he saw men being sensitive today (angry emoji)" Ur grandfather deserved tenderness too & it sucks that u glorify his suffering as a mark of manhood rather that recognize it for the burden it was

rosslynpaladin: Look we have records of Medieval Knights crying out in their sleep, having emotional outbursts or flinching at the sound of clashing metal. We have records of people all through history who were treated badly by people who should have loved them, and having problems knowing who to trust. We have years worth of artists putting their human pain at broken hearts and broken promises into music that makes us cry.

Yes people have been traumatized by awful thing for all of history and just like them You didn't deserve to be hurt either.

@richdmay.bsky.social the dangers of AI?
I asked ChatGPT to explain my job to a 5-year-old and now I'm questioning my entire career

So I'm a "Senior Data Analytics Consultant" (fancy title for someone who makes Excel charts) and thought it would be funny to see how ChatGPT would explain my job to a kid.

Me: "Explain what a Senior Data Analytics Consultant does, but make it simple enough for a 5-year-old to understand"

ChatGPT: "A data analytics consultant is like someone who counts things for other people because those people are too busy or don't know how to count very well themselves.

Imagine if your mom asked you to count all the toys in your room, but instead of doing it herself, she paid a stranger to come over and count them. Then the stranger makes a colorful picture showing that you have 10 cars, 5 dolls, and 3 blocks, and gives it to your mom like it's some big discovery.

That's bsically what a data consultant does, except instead of toys, they count things how many people bought ice cream on Tuesday and then make pretty charts about it."

I've never felt so profesionally attacked by such an accurate description.

The worst part? I sent this to my mom and she replied, "Oh, so you're the toy counter? That makes sense now.'

I have a Master's degree.

Tried explaining it to my 6-year-old nephew. He said "So you count stuff? I can do that too. Want to see?" and proceeded to count to 47 before getting distracted by a butterfly. Kid's not wrong.

My coworker saw thind and asked ChatGPT about her job as a "Marketing Strategy Director." Apparently she "helps companies decide what colors to make their pictures and which words sound the most exciting when trying to sell people things they probably don't need." She's now having an existential crisis too.

What's your job? Let's see if ChatGPT can destroy your self-worth in under 100 words.

@jasonkingsleyobe.bsky.social an author friend of mine just shared this. I thought I'd pass it on so you can keep an eye out for these.
I get tons of spam from Publicists and paid reviewers (ewww no) but this is a new one. I've gotten probably half a dozen so far like this one which always follow the same AI-ish script and include a link to the alleged author's work. I assume the link is trouble one way or another.
So if you're an author be cautious of anything like this you might get.

Image of email reads:

Hi Morgan

It's really nice connecting with you!

I'm [blacked out] a contemporary fiction and non-fiction writer. I've published two books on Amazon, here's a link to one of you'd like to take a look: [blacked out] Writing has been such a meaningful part of my journey, and I love getting to know others who are walking a similar path.

I'd really love to hear more about your writing, what you're working on, what got you started, or even what you're finding challenging right now. Writing can feel like a solo thing sometimes, but connecting with other authors always reminds me we're not in it alone.

If there's anything I can share from my experience to help you along the way, just let me know, I'm happy to chat.

Warmly,
[Cut off]

@richdmay.bsky.social @jasonkingsleyobe.bsky.social I came across this on Facebook. I think it should make it into Sniper Elite.

Then, out of nowhere, our cat Hector walks in, jumps onto a sniper’s back, and lies down for a nap. Chaos all around, and he’s just there, purring.
