It has been a few days since I attended La Diada (National Day of Catalonia) in Barcelona and I'm still processing it. Getting to learn Catalan and study Catalan sociolinguistics is such a deep honour, and being able to witness this complex and emotional day meant so much

Having lived and spent a lot of time in Spain the past few years, I've seen yellow-legged gulls eating pigeons but never saw an actual predation event. Today I finally did and as a biologist studying predation or course I took a bunch of photos and videos 😅

Universitat de Barcelona has been one of my dream institutions to work at for years now, so much so that it was one of the reasons I started taking Catalan lessons. Seeing it in person was so special, and as a bonus we swung by Casa del Llibre for some bird book/guides in Catalan and Spanish!

Unis love to brag about their "interdisciplinary" work, then disproportionately dismantle the humanities that contribute so much in their own right and through multidisciplinary collaborations. Without these fields we all lose out and what is happening at Exeter is a massive failing by the uni

Doing an interdisciplinary thesis is so cool because I can go from reading a paper on climate change affecting seabirds to a paper on linguistic violence under fascist regimes and it's all going into the same thesis, I still can't get over how exciting that is and how much I'm learning!

Una diapositiva de títol amb la imatge d’un flamenc dibuixat digitalment, situat davant d’una imatge esvaïda del delta de l’Ebre, a Catalunya.
