Working through that jar of arrabbiata sauce. More pasta for dinner. I couldn’t tell what type of twirly noodle this was from the bag but it looks tasty. Finished in the pan with grated parmesan and pasta water.

It's my pleasure to provide you with a little Jade Evergreen lore. Her new novella "The Elk Hunters" comes out in TWO WEEKS!

She felt the warmth on her face, traced it back through the windshield, through the air, the clouds, all the way back through space to the sun. It felt like that summer, about to turn twelve, standing barefoot in the grass outside the venue. Yvette sang about a pretty little thing and lighting candles; Jade strummed along on her acoustic, barely keeping up. A crowd had gathered, whooping and clapping while Yvette blew the harmonica for a solo, her afro curls bouncing along with her playing. They played covers until dark, until Jade’s legs were burned so red they peeled. They played forever.
A knock on the window brought Jade back. She rolled it down.
“Hey kid, you fell asleep.”
Jade looked up and saw Yvette, dressed in a deep green button-down shirt covered in tropical flowers, tucked into stonewashed blue jeans. Her hair was much shorter these days but no less stylish, oiled curls gathered at the top of her head.
“Oh shoot, sorry.” Jade gathered her backpack and climbed out. Yvette held out her hand, awaiting the transfer of the car keys.
“Already?” Jade asked. “I’m just stopping to get something.”
“Oh no you don’t,” Yvette said, and grabbed the keys. “I’ve got a hot date tonight. With Loretta.”

My parents and grandparents are from the little black dot I added to the map in southern Oregon. Wild how that’s also center of mass for the range of my dialect map.

The red (meaning most like how I talk) is a blob thst runs most of the west coast, wide enough at the bottom to include most of Nevada and the western portions of Utah and Idaho. It seems generally centered around Southern Oregon where Lakeview (my parents’ hometown) is.

Happy to report I am once again back on my bullshit. Everyone should read The Timeless Way of Building and A Pattern Language if they can. We have to know what to yell at our city councils about, what to build out through mutual aid and direct action, if we want anything to get better.

I always had a soft spot for Flotzilla lol
