Fire clearance (aka #FireMimicry) around oaks has some significant, unexpected consequences. This medley of time-lapse videos, each if which shows several hours of work per oak, when sped up, reveals a noticeable uplifting of the lower canopies, thus presumably aiding photosynthetic gains. 🌎🌲🔥🍁🌳

It was good having a quiet VWS standby duty yesterday, as we were able to learn about the Canadian services from visiting BC firefighter James v Sacken, and then got to take the crews out for some hydrant and pumps training. So many people giving so much, just out of sight #volunteers

Up early and looking forward to a 2hr drive into the countryside to train and put on some wildfire simulations for labourers on a large fruit export farm to assess their readiness for the fire season. Damn well love what I get to do! And taking my son as an assistant is an added bonus today!

So incredibly proud of my little big guy Kai. Gold medal in the Junior Mens u83kg and the Western Cape Best Male Junior 2025 Powerlifting Provincial Champ, second year in a row. Kai's weights were: Squat - 220kg Bench - 135kg Dead lift - 280kg Total - 635kg Proud Papa.
