Superb review. Also check out the other chapters on Ogun Records on the blog including the Introduction, there are links to downloads where available. Great writing about some extraordinary music.

#NowPlaying Tired Lion - Breakfast for Pathetics (2020). Described at the time by NME as 'gloriously grungy anthems of personal growth,' Brisbane based frontwoman Sophie Hopes plays everything bar the drums, she even manages some whistling on an album full of hooks and memorable lyrics.

#NowPlaying Sylvie Kreusch - Comic Trip (2024). Belgian singer/songwriter Sylvie Kreusch's second album, you can play spot the references, from Stereolab to Morricone via The B52's on an album that is engaging throughout.

The writing and research into the article are superb, the contents of the article deeply depressing.

I still catch-up with some refuseniks and I find it quite a bizarre place these days. All the nobody people and all the somebody people (thank you Mr Bowie) shouting over each other.

Read it, read the Pelicot long reads and the interviews with her daughter and family . Powerful writing and honesty from the victims that leaves me with a sense of anger and inadequacy.

Never ceases to catch me by surprise when the giant fern in our garden suddenly 'lays down' for the winter just before Christmas. What goes down as brown fronds will emerge green come March.

We all knew this story was coming from the bits and pieces that have already been out there, but however you parse it (and I believe the women, obviously), he seems like a thoroughly odious and abusive individual. I'm always wary of self-declaring feminists. www.vulture.com/article/neil...

A life well lived. Some of the sounds on this album are just wonderful, the synths sound like the wind rushing through mountains at different points.

Used to love listening to those, there was one station which seemed to be 'playing' the game mouse trap with the sound of marbles rolling along a track for hours on end.

Agree completely. This is generally a far mellower place although sexbots seem to be around more than when I first arrived on these shores.

Watched this last night, absolutely engrossing film featuring a very engaging Keith Jarrett. He's asked at one point what he got out of playing with Miles Davis, "I saw him happy," he replies. No longer on iPlayer so here's a YouTube link. youtu.be/_fB5YXgNX-w?...

Indeed, they used to smash stuff up on stage, including instruments, which freaked out the UFO crowd. The Move, like the Beach Boys, were a band where all members could sing and harmonise. Here's their last official single on TOTP. youtu.be/sBxZN7nJMEo?...

Absolutely. He badgered Motown to release 'I'm Still Waiting,' as a single because he said it would be a hit and he was right, made number one.

This is very sad news, Dean Windass is so relatively young. The phasing out of heading in youth football is the first step, earlier testing for professionals is a must, the Football Brain Health Fund needs serious funding from the sport. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...

I agree, I had one of those 'if only they knew what was around the corner moments.' There was quite a disconnect between the London centric tv world we were presented with and the south coast. We seemed, or perhaps where made to seem, to be slightly insular.

Online restaurant reviews are as random (as our daughter would say) as Amazon reviews, except they never go as far as saying 'I had the cod and chips which I ate for a friend.' How can so many people eat at the same place at the same time and be at polar opposites?

Have to say the crowd during Sparks caught me out, I was 15 then and those clothes and haircuts were a mixture of nostalgia, amazement and embarrassment.

Respect to Jon. When my wife and I first started going out in 1982 we thought we'd go up Portland Bill lighthouse. We got halfway up before both admitting that we suffered from vertigo. We still visit Portland once a year, but stick to the ground.

Music and, in some circumstances, most forms of art can do this. I've cried to music, to films, even reading a book has resulted in the odd bit of eye rubbing. The spiritual (in the truest sense of the word) connection is something I love about art. That ache as with meeting that great love.

Yes, we've got a similar deal out of season in the Loire Valley where we spent our first foreign holiday 35 years ago. I once stayed in chain hotel next to Duisburg station and apart from being able to see the roof I didn't know it was there, same in Lubeck and Leipizig - just a place to crash.
