To celebrate the centenary of Sir David Attenborough tomorrow I made this 3D printed Duplo-compatible figure of him and the children built him an African savannah scene. The file is here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:7348757 #ATTENBOROUGH100

I helped out with a hackathon about assistive tech and AI and I made a pointing device to help blind and partially sighted people navigate using a #Smartibot board. Combined with the (8 year old) AI in the app it worked surprisingly well allowing Chris to follow me through space

The second (and final) of these free training sessions on our street accessibility tool is tomorrow. The first went really well and it was great to hear from City of London officers how its use changed aspects of Bank Junction. Details in the thread if you want to come along👇
Photo of six people standing on a pavement with the royal exchange, mansion house and bank tube station visible in the background. Where they are standing the footway and carriageway are level but there is 800mm deep paving delineating the boundary.

This street accessibility training is tomorrow but there are still a few places if you want to come. Also the tool is now at its permanent home on the @transportforall.org.uk website: www.transportforall.org.uk/tess/

We’re running free training in how to use our new improved street accessibility tool at the Guildhall in London this Friday and next Tuesday. It’ll include a case study on how it was used at Bank Junction. Open to anyone who works in street design. More details in the thread.👇

I made a new thing 🧵 Working with @transportforall.org.uk we have built an even better spreadsheet for analysing streets (actual or being designed) and showing their likely accessibility for different disabled people. It’s free to download and use www.rossatkin.com/wp/?portfoli...

Photo of a very grand Victorian or Edwardian building with ‘Free Library’ written in stone relief in a lovely organic font above the door. The door itself is obscured by an enormous and unruly bush which is occupying the whole of what was once the route from street to door. In front of the bush are some haphazardly arranged orange plastic barriers. The barriers are the rubbish injection-moulded kind (not the nicer blow-moulded ones)

The best way to reduce PIP (Personal Independence Payments) to disabled people would be to make personal independence easier by improving transport accessibility: 🏘️ improving the accessibility of our streets 🚉 Sorting out level boarding on trains 🚌 Improving bus accessibility, frequency and speeds

I’m as big a fan of the Feast of the Unconquered Sun as anyone but I still feel it would be better if Christmas was a few weeks into Jan - Not enough dark evenings to sit indoors feeling cozy whittling elves and writing cards and are too many in Jan and Feb when there’s no point making an elf.

I made a lot of whatever these* are to go in party bags for the 4yo’s birthday. *Designed iteratively over the last few months with both kids on paper and in Fimo because none of us can draw horses.
A box full of small baby pink plastic creatures with single horns in gold, hot pink or turquoise, large eyes, long ears and noses and mouths like a cat or rodent.

The lovely folks at the V&A Museum asked me to design an activity for kids (and their parents) that tied in with their 'Tropical Modernism' exhibition and had a digital component. It's running every Wed/Thur/Fri in the main museum. I went to do it yesterday with the 6yo and 3yo 🧵
Side elevation drawing of a simple modernist building with walls with various geometric patterns of holes, and also large openings between the walls. A stylised sun shines on the building from the top left and a fan blows from the bottom right. There are two blocky figures with BBC micro:bits (tiny computers) for torsos. One figure is inside the building in the shad and blown by the fan and one is on the roof in the sunshine. The illustration is labelled 'Cool Buildings'
