Barriers to American companies importing it I guess, but it’s not gonna make it meaningfully cheaper

My one consolation is this will do sweet f all to shift prices. Even if it’s, you know, possible - which I’m sceptical of both because I don’t think Russia has the quantity they claim they do to spare, but also because it’s not like the American state is gonna directly import that, they can reduce

Polanski saying in response to criticism of motion that “we have to seperate antisemitism from criticism of the Israeli government” kinda underscores the issue. His party misunderstands Zionism as innate support for the Israeli state, which it’s not, really.

~11 points based on some short maths … oof not great for the greens (and not what I would call a “close” second

Poor byelection result in a seat he chose to contest (result is a few minutes away by the sounds of it, but based on comments they’ve probably not got within my earlier prediction of 5 points)

Granted as people that follow me know I’m not at all a fan of the greens in their current iteration (albeit I still have a lot of respect for Caroline Lucas, Sian Berry, etc) … but Polanskis authority is shot right? Sluggish polling, cowardice at the conference, and now what looks like a quite

I suspect labour will take it by ~5 points. But also with zero constituency polling available it’s totally possible Polanski wins

I feel like with their leader running, they possibly benefit more from high-attention voters, which would help them on a low turnout (all a bit speculative I guess till we see the numbers)

Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Really the only thing that special about this byelection is that one of the candidates is the leader of the party; otherwise it might show some indications as to party strength in wealthier urban areas but its just not got the features other recent byelections have had

Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I think it might just be down to the lack of outsiders - it’s not like Gorton and Denton which was predicted to be a three way race (though obviously in the end labour got trounced) and or Makerfield which had the capacity to substantially change the political trajectory

Not sure it would be classified as an implosion, the narrative is that they’re down in the dumps, but not that they’re incapable of winning seats in London. It’s *possible* albeit all things considered I personally suspect labour will semi-comfortably hold it (maybe like 5 points)

I always found it interesting, when I spent November in The USA, how little they could comprehend the shortness of our days in winter, and how amazed I was by their long hours of daylight, and it all came down to the fact that the UK is much much further north than people think.

I mean if I was running the greens (and if it were actually possible under their rules) yes I actually would rule it out of order and chuck it out

When I say "most" I should stress I mean most of the population centres of Canda. Canada does stretch further north, but *virtually* nobody lives up there, and certainly there are no settlements equivalent in size to Glasgow or Edinburgh

The UK is actually further north than most of Canada!! The Gulf Stream keeps us warm though, so despite even Cornwall being north of every large Canadian city it's much more temperate here

What "unlimited" support are we giving lmao, we ain't america chief

Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I have noticed a trend that something is *somewhat* true about america (and bad, though often exaggerated) and people just like, transpose that behaviour onto the UK... even though it has zero basis in reality

The top reply is suggesting we give Israel "seemingly unlimited support" ... Just terminally america brained

Tbh I’m a bit baffled by the fact that they’re not - seeing as how they’re pro independence, and being wedded to an English party at the same time was a bit weird. The only real reason I can think of is the welsh greens weren’t relevant until recently and they just haven’t got around to it yet

It was 1000 people in a party of 250,000, 400 of whom engaged with no other part of the party’s democratic processes. 5 quid entryism and nothing more

defending. A Russian advance could likely be halted relatively quickly. Actually ending the war would be very hard.

Whilst I am wholly confident NATO would comfortably win a conventional war with Russia - even if the United States were to refuse to come to our aid - I am incredibly skeptical that it would be quick. Ukraine's position is not the same as NATO's, but the current era of military technology favours

I do sometimes wish I just wasn’t interested in politics, it’s so exhausting and depressing and tbh it does kinda bring out the worst in me a lot of the time (because I’m argumentative/stubborn and feel the need to have the last word, rather than realising some people aren’t worth engaging with)

The motion calls for a single Palestinian state in place of Israel “by any means necessary” - the accompanying booklet explicitly acknowledges that includes the option of armed struggle. Not sure you end up with a happy ending for the ~7+ million Israeli Jews

Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Israeli governments deliberately destroying the chances of a 2 state solution is not a good reason to go “Welp only option now is ethnic cleansing in reverse”

Radical concept of “pm who sounds like he wants the job” (Although it’s funny to me that 28% is seen as a good poll when pre electoral fragmentation it would be disastrous - I guess being temporarily in fourth really lowers expectations)

I didn’t say Zionism was correct, I said it wasn’t inherently racist. Nor is being antizionist inherently antisemitic. Sorry chief the world is complicated

Most Palestinians want a 2 state solution which the motion rejects soooo
200
Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It’s fine to be anti Zionist, and most British Jews (statistically) are Zionist, which is also fine (again, broad term) Hell, again, the chair of Jewish greens counts herself as a bit of both
100
Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Like, idk maybe listen to the chair of the Jewish greens?
000
Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The motion defines Zionism as racism Most synagogues would regard themselves as Zionist (again broad term, ask your own party chair) The motion itself doesn’t call for expulsion but the party does not allow members who are part of racist institutions The synagogue exception got voted down
100
Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Most synagogues would consider themselves Zionist, most areas will not have a synagogue that does not consider itself Zionist. And again it’s because of a very different understanding of the word than that which the motion tries to cram into place
100
Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
If the Chair of the Jewish Greens is considering leaving over the motion, maybe the motion is problematic, idk chief don’t you find it telling that none of the MPs endorsed it and yalls leader actively avoided talking about it?
100
Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
They voted down the motion that would explicitly have carved out synagogues dude
200
Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
It’s the height of arrogance for members of a random British political party to decide what other people’s beliefs mean, decry them as racist, and then effectively deny self determination for Jewish people in Israel, whilst endorsing the option of engaging in violent conflict for the Palestinians
000
Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Whereas the green motion btw, if taken to its logical conclusion, is effectively calling for ethnic cleansing - but by the other side Which, ironically, is not even the actual position of the Palestinians living in the West Bank, who want a two state solution through peaceful diplomacy
100
Rose 🇭🇰🇺🇦 @rosewasnthere.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
(Also uhhh no I’m not privileging anyone over people’s lives, condemning British Jews who attend Zionist synagogues as racists does not, in fact, save lives)
