Seeing a bunch of comments from teachers lately that their students can't read or are not reading at grade level. And even if they can read the words, they are unable to comprehend or identify the message or meaning of the work. Only surface level. And that this is not new. This troubles me greatly.

Some snaps from last night's Chuck Palahniuk reading at the kickoff to his book tour in Portland, OR. Phenomenal night! Make sure to go see him if he's stopping in your town!

Trying to problem solve with Ingram. No one is answering my calls or emails. I hope my sales rep hasn't quit. I've been through 3 reps in the last 3 years. And I'm pretty sure the problem is I haven't gotten pissed off enough yet. Wish me luck!

If you are paying an artist for cover art and you want to make sure that they are not using AI, ask to see the file with the layers. If they can't provide that, it's AI.

Spidercar! The back of the car, you can't see in the photos, was augmented with a giant translucent abdomen and an egg sac filled with colored lights. And the legs moved!

Random thing that's made my life easier over the past couple years: Reserving parking in advance when I travel to events in big cities such as Seattle. This app has reliably found me great spots a good prices. spothero.com/faq

Some of my best career decisions have been deciding to work with the person I liked rather than the person that was "high-powered." I mentioned this to someone in Hollywood and they said "nice people can't get things done." False. And perpetuating that myth enables the assholes.

Interior of an abandoned building I walked past today. Photo taken through the front window beyond a locked door. It's beautiful the way nature reclaims the land.

Wonderful to see these writers get some attention from Esquire. I'm not sold on the "Generation H" label, but I'm totally in support of whatever increases visibility. l8.nu/t3M2

PNW coastal country living terms I learned today: Rhubarb Hat: a hat made out of a rhubarb leaf. Thin Pie: what you get when you don't have much fruit but still want to make a pie out of it. Tidal Bore: a strong tide that pushes up the river against the current and forms a wave.
