Okay Bsky. A request from a new friend I met at the conference today! I asked about his rad shirt and he said it belongs to his coworker's dad who always used to wear it to this conference and so he borrowed it. But he wants to see if he can find one for himself so he can match his friend's dad lol
A photo of the back of someone's shirt. It has a colorful pattern featuring various birds such as owls, crowned cranes, hoopoes, looks like there's a zebra finch in there, some parrots, a chicken maybe? And vultures? I think I see a stork and maybe even a pigeon. Lots of birds

It sounds like a lot of books, but then I talk to some of my heroes in the comics/book worlds and they tell me they've made 50 books or something. My goal is to make enough books that I can create a tiny fort to hide under. Oh, and also to uh, educate and entertain

I've run into a few folks who've asked me what I do when I'm not making cartoons. The answer is books. Right now I'm juggling work on 4 books that I've sold. I've published ten books (sometimes w amazing authors & once with a fabulous coauthor). It's all books, books, books rosemarymosco.com/books

Butterbutt. An older comic.
A four-panel comic titled "yellow-rumped warbler poem". In panel 1, a yellow-rumped warbler stands on a branch in a late autumn scene, and says "Fall is here." In panel 2, the warbler watches a brown leaf fall to the ground, and says "Winter's near." In panel 3, the warbler faces the viewer as brown leaves fall, and says "Need some cheer?" In panel 4, the warbler is showing its luminous yellow rump, and cheerfully says "See my rear."

The most recent episode of Today Explained really helped me understand what happened at Cornell, and the embarrassing game of broken telephone that is now being blamed on the victim. Highly recommended, but it also made me so angry and sad.

Yes i agree, but there are “great” works of art that I’ve tried to consume and found to be basic, sexist drivel, and I’ve been shocked to find they are not great!

Art isn’t a project to create a masterpiece that’s broadly relevant. It’s a conversation. Sometimes it only impacts a small number of people. Sometimes it’s created by certain people (eg women) and then ignored by the broader culture. The conversation is the point and without it there’s no art

I don’t think it makes sense to think of art as great or mid. What’s the definition here? Art that continues to be consumed for a long time? A lot of art is highly relevant to a specific time, helping move the needle and influence dialogue, and quickly loses relevance. Is that a problem though?

I remember the time I posted something about science on twitter, and a random guy replied explaining that science art exists, and admonishing me for just mentioning science and not promoting science art(?)

They’ve had such a rough spell. Troy’s house got flooded and he lost everything, too. And their keyboardist couldn’t show up because of passport issues. Honestly they were fun and did a fine job

The NSFW mushroom is Ravenel's Stinkhorn. Here are a couple individuals I've seen. You can find them by smell, they hatch from "eggs", and they attract flies. I found the first one in a pristine forest and the second in a Starbuck's parking lot

Elite athletes, musicians, actors & more often use cultural importance as an excuse for why they're exempt from cutting their emissions. In this new analysis led by @manuelsuter.bsky.social, we argue the opposite: visibility and influence should raise the bar, not lower it! Read more:

Humaning.
A four-panel comic. In panel 1, a Northern Cardinal and American Goldfinch perch above a busy crowd in a city, looking down. The cardinal says "It's a nice day to go humaning." The goldfinch says "Just look at them. Majestic." In panel 2, a close-up of the two birds. The cardinal says "Nobody tells you that you'll reach a certain age and suddenly get into humaning. I hit 3 years old, and then bam."The birds are looking out over the crowd scene. In panel 3, the cardinal says "Their calls sound funny to us, but each one has a unique meaning." Below, people are saying various things: "I'm tired." "Where's my phone?" "I'd murder a burrito." In panel 4, the birds look down excitedly at a man walking by. The cardinal says "Wait, is that a guy who got dressed in the dark and put his shirt on inside out and backwards?" And the goldfinch exclaims, "Holy... that's a lifer!"
