Excited to have secured a @sulsa.bsky.social Early Career Development Award that will allow me to bring several of my interests together. I'll be investigating how enterococci interact with colorectal cancer using the excellent organoid models and facilities we have here at @cruk-si.bsky.social!

I’ve spent a lot of time over the past two years thinking about genome evolution and how recent research revealing complex gene-gene interactions has complicated traditional ‘gene-centric’ genomic approaches to evolution. So here is a review that consolidates these thoughts! rdcu.be/e6pHY

Epistasis and co-adaptation in bacterial genome evolution

Delighted that our review on resistance to last-resort antibiotics in Enterococci has been published in FEMS Microbiology Reviews academic.oup.com/femsre/advan... (accepted manuscript version) TL;DR: the Enterococci are really good at evolving resistance to antibiotics in new and creative ways.

An excellent new study from Nabil Quraishi & Palak Trivedi investigating the use of oral vancomycin in the treatment of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis with a strong focus on the gut microbiome! We didn't find any evidence of VRE development but more work is needed, so watch this space!

For the past few months, a couple of times per week, we have been taking a walk around the Garscube campus. So far we have identified at least 34 different bird species. I'm looking forward to Summer when some of our migratory birds come back and we can add them to our list!

This feels like a good opportunity to reintroduce myself. I'm a microbiologist who has worked on antibiotic resistance and the gut microbiome. I've recently moved to @cruk-si.bsky.social on the beautiful Garscube campus. I'll be using my skills to study various aspects of bacterial cancer therapy!
