in the spirit of this account turning exclusively into one piece of star trek commentary per calendar year, god damn, the fourth season of disco actually kinda blew me away. most thoughtful writing i've seen from trek in a while. no villains. solve things with diplomacy and group science projects

nothing i have ever watched has made me notice cinematography as much as star trek discovery

i recognize that it’s easy to assume that everyone with that haircut must be a lesbian, but to me tbh, kira nerys has the energy of an unwitting aro-ace who keeps awkwardly attempting to date within the found family she assembles around herself pretty much by breathing

ten years ago today, i brought this sweet baby home. she was much skinnier and had an eye infection but purred for me so much right away 🥰

test lighting is finally getting there! look, it’s actual cerritos progress pics

a photo of a hand holding the unpainted nacelle of a model starship, the uss cerritos. there are long stripes glowing a bright diffuse blue and a glowing red cap on one end

another photo of the nacelle, showing the back end also glowing blue

another photo, this time of the engineering section. the deflector dish glows blue from within behind copper segments

a photo of the saucer section of a model starship. large segments glow from within so that once it’s painted, windows can be scraped out to let the light shine through. a few spots glow blue for accents

GUNPLA IS LIKE A QUARTER OF THE PRICE I EXPECTED IT TO BE??? THEY HAVE ORIGINAL FIGURES THAT ARE JUST MECHS YOU PUT TOGETHER FOR FUN AND HAVE SUPER CUSTOMIZABLE BITS???????? well damn, i might need to go build some of the mechs from my book, maybe then i'll want to edit it 🙃

150

Eren Branch @rootandbranch.bsky.social · 25/06/2025

anyway, it would be really awesome if the powers that be took Star Trek: Prodigy seriously enough to release a model kit for the Protostar, and even more awesome if some after-market fan producer did a resin-cast tiny bridge set, but also it might be good for my sanity that they haven't

Eren Branch @rootandbranch.bsky.social · 19/06/2025

my right shoulder has been real bad recently so i'm trying to use that arm as little as possible until the appointment, so i'm doing a lot of sitting around bored decided to finally watch star trek: nemesis, because sometimes boredom results in masochism, and wow

130

Eren Branch @rootandbranch.bsky.social · 19/06/2025

i've been doing TNG's Greatest Hits with my partner and we were literally one day off from watching Best of Both Worlds on the anniversary... ...so yeah, we did two episodes today :D Sarek and BoBW1. time for bangers.

150

Eren Branch @rootandbranch.bsky.social · 12/06/2025

also i was today years old when i realized that galaxy quest came out between insurrection and nemesis nemesis didn't break the pattern after all. it was an odd number. it was eleven :D

Eren Branch @rootandbranch.bsky.social · 10/06/2025

so okay, apropos of nothing, the new star trek show which I crave in my soul is one which would be perhaps impossible to write in this day and age it would require time for long-form storytelling without the constant pressure for intense drama and apocalyptic stakes

170

Eren Branch @rootandbranch.bsky.social · 02/06/2025

watching the first episode of enterprise, which i have always ignored, because why not and man, the early-oughts good old boy in the future vibes have BODIED me. this is SO 2001. i am time traveling in ways that are hard to quantify but the visual design is unironically sick

starship modeling funtimes on hold as i style wigs for a larp (contributing some npc costuming) been a loooong time since i did anything with wigs. between this and the ship, my dining room table looks like a craft bomb went off

photo of a long black wig stored on a wig head. it’s shiny as if it’s wet, and tangled with leafy strands dripping off the ends

photo of a long black wig stored on a wig head. it’s shiny as if it’s wet, and very straight and slick. there are subtle threads of sparkling green running through it. possibly too subtle, but hey, i know they’re there so they’re in the alt text lol

solid day of working on the cerritos model i’m building for my partner. light blocking done, a lot of bits and bobs painted. a little nervous about the handpaintedness of the transparent stuff (goddd that transparent paint is hard to handle!) but optimistic so far

a photo of a very messy work station in which many parts of a model spaceship are laid out in various degrees of painted

a closer shot of some transparent bits of nacelles and the deflector dish

so tonight’s Star Trek was Conspiracy, and at some point relatively early on, before it was clear, my partner was like “what did they get yeerked” and i consider it a tremendous achievement of self-control that i didn’t react overmuch :D also man, Bev was MVP in that episode!

god, it's been a year since i did any serious work on the larp casting app i'm theoretically writing, and i dropped off in the middle of a major update that involved taking apart most of how game creation works staring at my old code wondering if i even know how to do this anymore like

tonight's star trek: at partner's request, because she heard it mentioned, backtracked to Coming of Age and had a good time. also i totally forgot that was heavily foreshadowing Conspiracy. whyyy does Picard's old friend think he might be something else lol

tonight's cooking: forgot to grab a picture. :( sirloin steak, sous vide and then seared at the end, with rice browned in the steak trimmings and parsnip soup. the soup was a failure, but the steak was delicious

right, let's do this. I LIVE this week: need to do edits and tweaks to another larp, along with writing one new character sheet, so as to send out those sheets. I should be able to get it all done in a week if it flows, but i'm also not going to push myself too hard for it #queerwriters

I LIVE....which is to say i finished writing that larp, barely in time, and ran it, and it went pretty well, and now i am exhausted wrote probably 75% of it friday before game >.> i haven't had procrastination this bad on a larp...possibly ever actually

I’m seeing some new folks on this here platform complaining about a lack of engagement & interaction. Here’s the thing: Without an algorithm shoveling things at you (thank the gods), interaction *is* different and something you have to, well, actively generate. Here’s what I find works:

okay, so because this is what i'm working on right now, have a glimpse of a larp character sheet! larp comes in a lot of forms. the kind i design focuses on relationships and drama, and players get a sheet that tells them who their character is #queerwriters #WritingCommunity #lgbtqwriters

So you grew up and went to high school and pretended to be a normal girl who had never drawn things in her own blood. You did okay at school, you made a few friends, you carried on. And every time somebody asked you what you want to do or what colleges you were thinking of applying to, you would say you just weren’t sure yet, maybe psychology, because psychology is a safe answer. A normal answer that doesn’t make people ask more questions about the future that you don’t have.

A mood board of eight tiles and a centre square with lockpicking tools and ancient writing:
1. Always have an escape plan.
2. A swindler never lets herself feel like a fraud.
3. Don't look for the easy grab, look for the easy mark.
4. Never get involved with golems.

The pictures depict, clockwise from upper right:
A) A city of canals and towering footbridges. There are minarets and steeples and red-tiled roofs.
B) A market selling elaborate lanterns, all aglow.
C) A porcelain and gold hand, reaching upwards.
D) Two figures leaping across rooftops against the coming dawn.
E) A pocketwatch--or is it? Constellations and continents cover the front, the body of the watch engraved with runes. It's sitting on ancient parchment.
F) A wax stamp with removable chits that function as coins in a card game.
G) The lords of the city overlooking grand canals and issuing edicts. They are dressed in fine red robes and silks.
H) Assorted bones and shells used for divination and more.
