How long have you followed him? It's so crazy to think that he got his first break almost twenty years ago on a TV show taped in my home province of Nova Scotia; I remember watching segments like this one. www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5yt...

Very nice! I didn't think to say this yesterday, but a lot of people would be very happy with their game collection if they only owned yours!

It really is! It's also great that one of the people involved in the creation of the new projection also provides high-quality map data free of charge! I used some of it to create the map for the game Waddle Waddle. 🐧🐧 boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/38...

Hilroy replaced it with an overly-detailed map that includes every island in Canada. I know that us Nova Scotians weren't pleased that Cape Breton was missing, but we weren't about to pull out a magnifying glass to complain about Sable Island.

000

Ron Halliday @ronhallidaygames.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

ICYMI...Hilroy, a formerly-Canadian but now American-owned company screwed up the map of Canada that had graced the cover of one of their popular exercise books for decades, omitting several important islands. Rather than reverting to an older, correct version with an adequate level of detail...

I forgot about the fishing channel and the dog channel! And there are a few agriculture industry channels as well.

010

Ron Halliday @ronhallidaygames.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

I imagine there are a few dedicated to esports as well? Here in Brazil there are obviously a number of soccer-only channels, but I'd hazard a guess that there are even more religious channels.

Me: Time to buckle down, the deadline for this important project is next week. Also me: I should do the 3 heart challenge for Zelda I on the NES with this new caveat I came up with that will require me to map out the entire game. zeldadungeon.net/forum/thread...

I'm terribly disappointed that Count Binface didn't include renaming Clacton-on-Sea to Clacton-on-Ceefax in his manifesto -- maybe you can! 😄

111

Ron Halliday @ronhallidaygames.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

I'm thinking that I should start a designer's diary on BGG to share more similarities (like goals per game and its bell curve). Revanche has only been published here in Brazil, and I think publishers elsewhere would like to know that such a simple game can produce accurate real-world results.

000

Ron Halliday @ronhallidaygames.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

A good example comes from Revanche's simulations of Paraguay's final two matches in the World Cup. In the first match, Paraguay upset Germany because their best players showed up at the right time. But they got shellacked by France in the second match because the opposite happened!

100

Ron Halliday @ronhallidaygames.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

This means that the weaker team will have less potential to score, and to prevent being scored upon. Potential being the key word -- since each player receives half of their deck, sometimes the stronger team's goalkeeper and playmaker don't “show up” for the match, leaving room for upsets!

100

Ron Halliday @ronhallidaygames.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

It's a light 15-minute game for ages 10 and up. Each player has an identical deck of 60 cards, and in that deck are four goalkeepers (1) and four playmakers (10). To simulate a strong team playing against a weak team, I use eloratings.net to remove some of these special cards from the weaker team.

I'm really pleased with how nicely my game Revanche Futebol Cards is simulating plausible World Cup results! Here's a comparison of the teams that have advanced through the stages of both tournaments so far. If only Egypt had won yesterday... 🤯 And Revanche is not a sports-simulation game! ↓

@countbinface.bsky.social Will you include renaming the town to Clacton-on-Ceefax as part of your manifesto?

Good to know that it fits in a living room!

Ron Halliday @ronhallidaygames.bsky.social · 12/06/2026

Yesterday my soccer card game successfully predicted the winners of both matches, and even got the score right in the match between Mexico and South Africa! So I'd be pretty happy if today's predictions are accurate as well. 🤞 🍁

What a week for Hits & Outs『ヒット＆アウト』! After it appeared on the very popular Japanese late-night program TV Chidori, it became the best-selling board game of the week on Rakuten, a huge e-commerce website in Japan. 👑 It was also #67 amongst all toys -- who knew Tamagotchi was still so huge?!? 😲

I absolutely love ❤️ how photos of Hits & Outs『ヒット&アウト』tell the story of the game! Two people shared photos of games they played with their families today -- both were scoreless until extra innings, then both teams scored and the winner won by one run. 🤩

Very happy to see that Hits & Outs made a channel's Top 10 list! In this case, it's the Top 10 new releases in Japan in 2025. Neat to see the mix of brand new Japanese games and older international titles that were just released there. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxsA...

What's next on the list? The Guardian Legend is a game I was lucky enough to play back in the day; it's probably tied with The Legend of Zelda as my favourite non-JRPG on the NES.

Having four Dragon Warrior/Quest games on the NES is impressive as well. It'd be interesting to know how long it takes to speed run the six MM games in comparison to the four DW games. I think Dragon Warrior I is the only game from that series that I completed in one sitting.
