We will make you laugh, we will make you cry, and we will make you question. But most importantly, we’ll tell you stories that will stay with you long after the 70-minute show is over.

What to expect: a raw, powerful first-hand account of escaping #Russia’s full-scale invasion of #Ukraine in its early days, told from two perspectives — mine as a Ukrainian journalist and Jez’s as my British partner who unexpectedly found himself caught in a war.

One of the questions I get asked most often in radio and TV interviews these days is whether #Ukraine should hold presidential elections before the war is over.

It’s a painful realisation. Even more painful is thinking about the destruction of so much that I love over the last 11 and a half years. I want to think about Ukraine simply as my home, but instead I’ve had to learn to carry that sense of home inside me. 4/5

August 23 is the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine, and August 24 is Ukraine’s Independence Day. Four years ago, I shared with TIME what spending my first Independence Day away from Ukraine meant to me. Now I’m approaching my fifth. time.com/6208022/ukra... 3/5

Not just my native streets of Podil in Kyiv, but the big square in Kharkiv, the mountains of Crimea and the sea in Odesa. The landscapes of the Carpathians, the coffee and cakes of Lviv and Uzhhorod, the urban vibe of Chernihiv, and my plans to finally visit Ukrainian Donetsk and Luhansk. 2/5

The worst that can happen is that it's unexpectedly packed and you have to stand at the back. The best that can happen is that you join 200+ people for a very special evening.

Exactly 29 years ago, on May 24, 1997, the very first McDonald’s in #Ukraine opened its doors in #Kyiv. In the early hours of May 24, 2026, that same #McDonalds was destroyed in a #Russia n attack. One of the countless places shattered overnight in my hometown.

5/ We often say that How NOT to Flee a War is not really a political lecture or history lesson. It’s a deeply human story about escape, identity, mistakes, grief, dark humour, survival, and what happens when ordinary life disappears overnight.
