Just in case you don’t know, Taiwanese actually keep supporting Ukraine since 2022, such as donating ambulances, weapons and medical equipment to Ukraine. Also, Taiwanese volunteer soldiers sacrificed their lives on the battlefield while supporting Ukraine.

September 13 is observed as Political Prisoners’ Day in India. On September 13, 2020, Umar Khalid, a charismatic student leader and a recent PhD graduate from India’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was arrested under the Unlawful Activities PreventionAct (UAPA) – a draconian law that defines prisoners as terrorists and allows the Indian state to imprison people without due process. His crime: as an Indian Muslim, he had dared to dissent against the discriminatory 2019 Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) for fast-tracking non-Muslim refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Khalid, along with several other prominent Muslim student leaders and activists such as Sharjeel Imam, are currently imprisoned without trial under UAPA charges.
Using found footage of his past speeches along with a forensic analysis of how he was framed by the right-wing Hindu nationalist media, Umar Khalid’s close friends Banojyotsna Lahiri and Shuddhabrata Sengupta reconstruct the chronology of events that led to his tragic imprisonment in Lalit Vachani’s documentary, Prisoner No. 626710 is Present (2024).
Join us on September 19th for a solidarity screening and discussion of Prisoner No. 626710 is Present at New Bloom. This event will open with a brief 15 minute opening explaining the specific context of the anti-CAA and National Register of Citizens protests from 2019-2020, as well as broader context of Islamophobic political repression in India, followed by the documentary screening (60 minutes) and a 45 minute guided discussion.

"India's Youth in Revolt?: The Cockroach Janta Party and its Context"

Student-led protests have broken out in cities across India, most visibly in the capital Delhi.

In response to a comment by Chief Justice Surya Kant denigrating unemployed young people as “cockroaches,” many young people branded themselves online as the “Cockroach Janta Party”--meaning “Cockroach People’s Party” and a pun on the name of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The party started as a joke but quickly developed into a grassroots social movement, channeling young peoples’ frustrations over high youth unemployment and a lack of transparency in government. The protests faced police violence, but succeeded in their initial demand that India's education minister resign over entrance examination-related scandals which had impacted millions of young people and led to several deaths by suicide.

The demonstrations are just the latest in a series of youth-led social movements in South Asia, which have ushered in changes of government in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal in the past few years.

Having won an initial victory, what are protesters demanding now? What does the emergence of these demonstrations say about Indian society and its current discontents, regarding caste discrimination, high youth unemployment, and the Hindu nationalism of the BJP?

To discuss this and more, we have invited Shataakshi Verma, of Reporters Without Borders, as well as another speaker, who was at the protests in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar square, to discuss India’s “cockroach” moment with us.

【光、希望與抵擋】｜第三屆香港人權作品展即將開幕

我們每個人生來自由，但在世界的某些角落，光芒仍被陰影遮蔽。那些關於發聲的勇氣、不願妥協的靈魂，以及對平等的渴望……都將透過藝術與文字，在這裡被看見。

歷經前兩屆的感動與迴響，第三屆香港人權作品展，主題是「光、希望與抵擋」，這次共收到30份參賽作品，帶著更深度的議題、更震撼的展件，即將與大家見面！

如果我們因為害怕而停下來，極權就贏了。他們越是害怕這些作品被看見，我們就越有責任展出它。堅持舉辦，就是我們拒絕讓恐懼支配生活的具體反抗。

同時，正因為我們經歷過被打壓的黑暗，所以更知道「光」的重要性。藝術是有力量的，我們堅持舉辦，是希望把這份得來不易的溫暖與力量傳遞出去，讓所有還在面對黑暗的人知道：「只要我們繼續發聲、彼此守望，光就不會熄滅。」

除了作品展，我們還會舉辦影展與一系列座談，邀請你一起走進展覽，用聆聽與理解，成為守護人權的一份子。

It can be hard to believe but Europe is at war with russia invading Ukraine & killing countless civilians while the governments of many other countries turn a blind eye or worse still support the russian terrorists. The UK government took a stand against russia as did many uk citizens. STAND WITH US

Seeing the continued attacks on kyiv of late as well as numerous other regions of Ukraine in the past few weeks, not forgetting the thousands of attacks throughout the past years it's difficult to understand why so little attention to russia's terrorism is finding it's way onto news channels.

US to grant Ukraine a licence to produce Patriot interceptor missiles.
"It is definitively known that the parents and three children perished.
The Russian missile strike was so powerful that almost nothing remained
of the house… Under the rubble, fragments of human bodies were found, and only forensic examinations can determine to whom exactly in the family those bodies belong.

反對《民族團結進步促進法》
終結官警黑勾結　停止跨境鎮壓

2019 年 7 月 21 日，香港人經歷咗永遠無法忘記嘅一日。

當日下午，數以十萬計市民再次走上街頭，反對送中惡法，繼續為香港自由、民主發聲。於香港絕跡數年嘅「光復香港，時代革命」再次響徹前往中聯辦嘅路上，象徵住香港人所追求嘅，已經唔再只係撤回送中惡法，更係對自由、公義同未來嘅盼望。

然而，當夜幕降臨，元朗西鐵站內卻發生震驚世界嘅一幕。大批白衣暴徒喺元朗西鐵站內手持武器，無差別襲擊市民、記者同途人，在場警察卻選擇轉身離去，警方隨後更將元朗多間警署落閘拒絕市民報案。

對好多香港人嚟講，七二一唔單止係一宗暴力事件，更象徵住法治、公義同問責受到前所未有嘅衝擊。官警黑勾結亦由此成為香港人對七二一事件最深刻嘅集體記憶。

七年過去，傷痕未曾因歲月而淡去；歷史，亦從來唔應該被遺忘。

然而，威權並冇停下腳步，我哋面對嘅，已唔再只係一座城市嘅故事，而係一場跨越地域、針對自由與民主價值嘅挑戰。

近日，暴力恐嚇再次伸延至海外，香港黑社會遠赴台灣襲擊民主人士，事件再次反映跨境鎮壓以及官警黑暴力威脅仍然存在，亦令人再次憶起七二一暴力犯罪壓制異見嘅陰影。

與此同時，《民族團結進步促進法》將進一步收窄海內外言論自由以及少數民族權利嘅空間。當權力缺乏制衡，法律繼續成為壓迫異見工具。

由元朗七二一，到今日多宗備受關注嘅跨境打壓事件；由香港街頭，到海外社會，時代或許改變，地點或許不同，但威權對自由嘅侵蝕始終未曾停止。

正因如此，我哋更加唔能夠遺忘。

今年七月，誠邀每一位珍惜自由、民主、人權同法治嘅朋友，一同嚟到中國駐英國大使館外，以和平方式集會，毋忘歷史，拒絕恐懼。

因為記憶，唔應該被抹去；
因為公義，唔應該被遺忘；
因為沉默，只會令威權變得更加肆無忌憚。
