RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I went to a few Mitzvahs as a kid and unless the family is super conservative/orthodox it's really just a slightly-larger-than-average birthday party. You get aunts flown in from parts of the country you didn't know existed. 010

RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 25/09/2026First off: cool outfit. Second off: phenomenal cosmic power. Third off: I get to use my naturally wily and mischevious ways in a way that's narratively sanctioned. So that's neat. 010

RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Obsidian putting out consistent 7-9/10 games but constantly getting put down because they're also the studio that made 2 of the greatest games of all time and haven't pulled off the hat trick feels like a specific kind of purgatory. 021
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Whatever we might feel about Little Bunny Foo-Foo's actions, surely we can all agree being turned into a goon violates the Cruel and Unusual Punishments clause. 2120
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 12/09/2026At least Esau got a mess of pottage for selling his birthright. Judas sold his savior and got 30 bucks. These studios will sell their souls for nothing. 000
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Seeing Level 5 jump so hard on the AI train is a huge bummer. I grew up adoring the Layton games and I dropped hundreds of hours into Fantasy Life. I can't help but get a little depressed seeing so many studios embracing the slop machine. 100
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 10/09/2026The phrase 'Thirsty-Thursday merger' randomly passed through my mind and I have a sudden overwhelming compulsion to do everything in my power to prevent it. 000
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Not to mention that the employee is also entitled to arbitration if they want it. Usually it comes down to the shop steward and management yelling it out in front of a neutral arbitrator who decides if the disciplinary action or termination stands. 130
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Some workplaces have exceptions; at my last job you get summary dismissal for gross negligence (I.E., doing something that could get someone killed). But generally, if someone's acting up, you're required to give them a chance to fix themselves after disciplinary action before you can fire them 130
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 08/09/2026I used to be shop steward at my old job, so I can elucidate a little. It depends on the union contract, but usually if someone's past probation and they haven't received any disciplinary action within a certain period, you're can't fire someone for cause. 141
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 03/09/2026One of the cool things about being a legacy systems guy is that you get to be 'The Young Guy' in your office way longer than other fields. The average COBOL programmer is 103 years old and got his start making punch cards at IBM. 020

RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 31/08/2026You never see Mystery Cults anymore. You don't see people wearing scary masks while they dunk you in a bath of milk to symbolize the sanctification of Hermes Thrice-Blessed. Cults these days are all just 'uhhh actually Jesus said you have to share your wives with me'. 110
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Any American solider who dies in this war is *not* making it through the gates of Valhalla unless they go down fragging their officers. 110
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Not being able to pay your army feels like a problem that shouldn't be happening post like, 1870. Our troops are going to become bandits and pirates. What are we even doing here. 110
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Whenever I see someone write 'females' to mean 'women' I mentally pronounce it like 'tamales'. That's my version of 'Wömen. Men of Wö.' 000
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Anyways, Lucy Lethbridge has a great book called Servants that covers domestic work in the UK during and after the period, but I'd be interested in reading analyses examining domestic servitude in the minds of the literary class. 010
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Characters will opine about how isolated and alone they are for entire pages just to offhandedly mention servants making their food and cleaning their rooms. It feels fundamentally alien to me in a way that all the other bigotries of the period don't. 110
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Obviously, reading Victorian-era fiction, you're going to see a lot of things that have aged poorly, but I still always find myself shocked at how domestic servants are simultaneously omnipresent and invisible. They're treated more like furniture than people, it's rather bone-chilling. 110
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 20/08/2026OK but like. Imagine: giant peasant girl with a big-ass rake plowing several acres all in a single day. Giant sculptor girl who makes what are, to her, little statuettes that loom over most of the people in the city square. 110

RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Anyways; I like Wilson's translation for what it sets out to accomplish (Dactylic Hexameter := Iambic Pentameter, word-to-word and line-to-line translation). She's an expert in her field as has more of a right than anyone to opine on historical content; But thank God she's not directing movies. 111
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 28/07/2026As the only (half-)Greek person in my social circle it's been weird to be treated as the Rosetta Stone on how people are supposed to react. Both the Wilson translation (it's fine; it achieves what it sets out to do) and the Nolan film (basically the platonic ideal of 'Wot if Odyssey blockbuster') 110
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 28/07/2026I think one of the biggest things video games have lied to me about is the relative difficulty of crouch-walking. Apparently every stealth game character has knees made of steel. 000
RomanProphet @romanprophet.bsky.social · 22/07/2026I tend to prefer twelve acolytes over nine days. Causes some logistical issues since some of them will have to go on the same day, but 12 and 9 being 108 just lends a real sense of gravitas to the whole thing that I think makes it worth it. 000
