Every NixCon, the same feeling: so excited I can barely sleep. 😄

Not everybody in your company has to and most importantly you can coexist with those engineers. Also sorry for long answer. You brought up a topic that I really really have strong opinions on :) And happy nixing

But I hope Flox can be that little puzzle piece that enables the adoption of Nix at work, especially in bigger organizations. And if I wouldn't see it myself I wouldn't believe it is possible that a company can use Flox without anybody knowing Nix. I'm not saying you should not learn Nix, but...

And just so if it is not obvious, I'm an engineer at Flox, but the stories and constraints when adopting Nix at work are real. It happened to many times that a company tried to adopt Nix and couldn't adopt it fully (eg. their frontend team could bother to learn Nix) they had to abandon it.

... just want to have an environment with few packages, then Flox is simple enough for them to figure out this on their own. Without me having to be by their side. In a way, Flox allows me to use Nix at work :)

.. and that is where I saw Flox being super useful. I can still do my regular Nix stuff, but when things get hard, eg. custom builds of software, freaking cuda stuff, software with poor upstream packaging, did I say cuda, ... and for those who don't want to learn a new language (Nix) and ...

... and with time I start to understand that nix is not for everyone and that is ok. some want only 3 packages to do their work. They don't want to learn a new language to just install 3 packages and they definitely don't want adopt a new religion to be able to do their work.

... but when trying to introduce it at work, not everybody gets it. and due to its design you almost have to adopt it as a whole company or the experience is really poor. At times I was frustrated at why an engineer would not want to have a reproducible and declarative environment to work in...

... not because nix is so great, but because it exposes me to more software. different software. I can easily play with stuff that usually would not have the time for. and the next moment I'm back in my work environment. but...

What do chefs and Nix engineers have in common? We obsess over a clean kitchen. 20 years of reproducible builds and it turns out I was accidentally building the best AI strategy the whole time. You can't make AI deterministic, but you can make everything around it predictable. buff.ly/3rLp1U1

People saying extend Claude Code through CLI, not MCP. Agree. We see Claude Code looping through commands every day trying to figure out the output, the flags. One surprise: output markdown, not JSON. LLMs read text, and they're way better at markdown. Didn't see that coming.

PlanetNix 2026 done. Almost 2x last year. Still recovering. Even the most hardcore Nix people said we can't expect _everyone_ to learn Nix. Did not see that coming. Nix + Kubernetes was the hot topic. Anthropic, Nvidia, Spotify all running Nix in prod. Videos coming soon. planetnix.com

You know Nix. Your team doesn't. You've tried the pitch. They went back to Docker. Giving a workshop at PlanetNix: Give your team Flox. They get reproducible envs. You keep your flakes. Everyone wins. Some will learn Nix eventually. Some won't. Both fine. planetnix.com

Wispr Flow just showed me what I said most in 2025. Go-to phrase: "Let's commit the changes" In Ghostty: "Please review and commit" I was hoping it would say "talking to my wife." Nope. Just git.

~12 hours for PlanetNix CFP. If you use Nix you probably hate talking about it. Never bring it up at work. Definitely don't submit a talk. Unless...? March 5-6 in Pasadena, co-located with SCaLE. Good conversations, great burritos (it's LA). planetnix.com

Sometimes writing code isn’t the hardest part. It’s dealing with everything *around* it. ❌ Different Node/Python versions. ❌ Piles of dependencies. ❌ READMEs that *almost* work (but don’t). With Flox, you can set up environments in seconds. Watch the full video here: buff.ly/UnyNHBD #flox

Remember that experiment of using @flox.dev to replace Homebrew? Now it's official. flox.dev/docs/tutoria...
Homebrew migration guide

Flox is an environment and package manager all in one. Using Flox, you can create discrete environments containing packages from the Flox Catalog.

Flox can replace Homebrew entirely, or they can be used together.

This guide explains how to introduce Flox into environments where Homebrew is currently being used, either as a replacement or an addition. It introduces new concepts and proposes a basic procedure for mapping packages.
