I'm left wondering what level of protocol this message is from. Error reporting is still a hard problem! Also, @anthropic.com please sort out Claude remote control, it's a joke currently.
A random error seen in the Claude android app remote control:

Error: 400 messages.3.content.0: unexpected tool_use_id found in advisor_tool_result blocks: srvtoolu_01P8PZKmFYqhicxzec9Sb9xW. Each advisor_tool_result block must have a corresponding server_tool_use block before it.

My lawn seems to have responded to your exhortation.
An area of lawn. A few blades of grass are visible but mostly it's moss. A pair of bare feet are visible, sinking in comfortably.

I was back home at my parents' place recently and, thinking of your interests, took a photo of my old bookshelf there, a snapshot in time from about 1990...
Three shelves of rather sun-faded sf paperbacks, featuring many Heinlein, Asimov and other vintage favourites.

It's probably all in encrypted local cache files and in the cloud. It occurs to me that local link generation for self consumption is a fabulous use for tailscale.

Today I made the first lovage soup of the season. And used up some chicken stock bones that had been sitting in the freezer for ages. Deeply satisfying indeed.
A bowl of rather thick green soup on a table with brown bread, a butter dish and some glasses of homemade kombucha. Behind them are some candles and a chopping board with cheese on it. There is a glimpse of garden beyond.

Fun prompt. It does make it clear that ChatGPT sees an extremely weirdly distorted view of the world. :)

So this is essentially what's going to happen, right? (apologies for the AI-generated image)
In the style of an old Punch cartoon, the following scene is illustrated:
AMERICA sits in a gloomy space with various recognizable figures such as Donald Trump behind high wall fencing it off from the rest of the world labelled TARIFFS. The rest of the world, including CHINA, EUROPE etc is in the sunshine happily trading togeter.

Now it's pretty darn good! Still wouldn't use it, but it's really getting there.
Image with people and clothing that are recognisably the same as previous photo.

Previous attempt was laughable, unsurprisingly:
An image of two people in outdoor clothes up a hill. Below it is an image of two totally different people in very different clothes.

OK, it's now rolled out for me. Total game changer. My prompt was this (this was from an old attempt at making a birthday card a while back):
Text image: "Here's a photo of a couple. Please process the image so that it's stylised and includes creeping vegetation of UK native species instead of the background. The vegetation is starting to take over the people. The style should be flat and the colours very muted."

Hmm, has this rolled out everywhere? Or is there something I have to do to get access to it (other than just a Plus subs)? 'Cos I get this response when I try something similar:
Me: Those aren't the same people as in the original photo.

ChatGPT: You're absolutely right — and thanks for calling that out.

Right now, I can’t directly transform specific people from a photo into a new stylised or altered image while keeping their facial features intact and photorealistic. The tools I use generate new imagery based on a written prompt rather than editing the actual photo you provided.

But! Here are two good options we can go with:

If you see this, quote post with a beach photo from your gallery if you have one.
Talisker beach on the Isle of Skye looking into the sun with striking pools of water in the foreground and tiny silhouetted figures in the distance.

I wonder which ChatGPT content policy I might be breaching. The guardrails are seriously getting in the way here!
An interaction with ChatGPT 4o where I'm asking it to generate an innocuous image of UK native species and it refuses on the grounds that I'm breaking policy.

Maybe this has something to do with it. Sigh.
Sorry, Ubuntu 24.04 has experienced an internal error. It's written in an unsafe language and has no idea what has gone wrong. Byeee!

Another thought (they'll continue to come as my subconscious absorbs what I've learned about Zig so far). Here's a fn from the std library:

What exactly does "pub var" in a struct mean, if it doesn't declare a field? In fact what does "pub" itself mean? The Zig docs don't seem to talk about it explicitly at all.

Interesting wrinkle around defaultValue here. I guess it's not much different from what Go's reflect package does under the hood. And at least StructField.type is first class, which is pretty cool.

I definitely need to play with Zig now to decide how I feel about it. I understand Mitchell Hashimoto's verdict of "it's funner than Rust" somewhat now, and I suspect I'll agree (not a high bar!). I wonder how big those binaries will end up.

YACC definitely has changed a lot since the last time I used it (10 ed unix derivative). Or maybe `.y` doesn't imply YACC these days?

I'm wondering what T is here:

I wonder if Zig could avoid async (red-blue functions, anyone?) entirely. Seems a bit unlikely. I like Go's green threads, but I think I understand where Zig is aiming, and those aren't really compatible with that direction.

Like Go's "import ." on steroids. I quite like it, although I worry about the implications for API compatibility.

For example, tell me how to use something or what it is, but don't tell me one possible way I can use it and let me try to infer how else I might use it.

I'm gagging for some actual _rules_ here.
Peer Type Resolution occurs in these places:

switch expressions
if expressions
while expressions
for expressions
Multiple break statements in a block
Some binary operations
This kind of type resolution chooses a type that all peer types can coerce into. Here are some examples:
