"Everything is a conspiracy theory when you don't understand how anything works." The California voting system could be better. It's hardly a surprise to anyone who understands the rules of the game that it always takes a long time to count votes that are allowed to come in until the last minute.

Strategic bombing has a really bad track record. This is a truism in military strategy. What is now different is that on top of its historical failures we have now the challenge of automation and drone warfare for which the U.S. seemed quite unprepared. open.substack.com/pub/rodrigon...

The most important and urgent order to give right now to the federal workforce and to motivate the private sector is to immediately bring back work from home policies. The more We can reduce gasoline consumption right now, the less pressure. Lifting Russian sanctions was not the first step possible

Mexico is on fire. The killing of El Mencho has triggered a coordinated cartel retaliation from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta to at least five other states. Here's why the geopolitical implications go far beyond one dead drug lord... my rapid response post on this. open.substack.com/pub/rodrigon...

This is exactly what we have been saying would happen! When you force thousands of federal law enforcement officers to abandon their normal jobs and go after random migrants instead, it's a field day for the actual serious criminals out there doing things like drug trafficking.

Remember when Chatgpt would use delve for almost every single sentence? Well, now "it is not just" has become the new delve. The current iteration of the LLM loves this "it is just not about XXX but YYYY" structure. These negative space sentences are so damn prevalent (that and an abuse of --).

This whole anti Tesla movement had me thinking that, Interestingly enough, from an economic perspective, if you own a Tesla and oppose Musk, selling it doesn’t actually harm Tesla—it just introduces someone new to the brand, making them a potential future customer.

Former tax/NAFTA lawyer hat here 🙂 : A tariff is a tax imposed by the U.S. government on American businesses and consumers when they introduce foreign goods into the U.S. economy. A domestic tax obligation that must be paid before imported goods can enter commerce, directly increasing their cost. 🧵

President Polk seriously considered annexing a huge chunk of the Mexican territory and was stopped by southern states as that would dramatically change the demography and electoral geography in the country with all those brown Mesoamerica Catholics, non slavers joining the union.
