I love Aftermath but I really disliked this (well-written, thoughtful, interesting, worth reading!) piece. I do not think it's bad, or even avoidable, for "control" of a character to leave the creator. Characters, ideas, and stories only continue to have this kind of power due to the input of all

If you care about these characters, if you care about the canon, either as a fan or as a marketer trying to find an audience, there’s a real drawback here. I love King of the Hill, but now, given my go-to Fortnite loadout, I’ll always kind of think of Hank as a Hatsune Miku fan who carries a magical girl scepter and wears Heelies. And as funny as it is, for me, it kind of sucks. The fourth wall has been shattered, and the character is being sold to me now as a literal skin, an empty shell for me to purchase and customize. The control no longer belongs to the people who gave birth to it, created its personality, and worked to make it iconic, it belongs to Epic, and is being used and sold specifically to get me to buy V-bucks. Something important dies in that process, no matter how much fun you’re having with your new toys. When these characters are hollowed out to become skins, it’s impossible not to think of that hollowed-out version whenever you see them outside of Fortnite as well. It’s the inevitable effect of having these characters sold back to you as, it must be said, an advertisement for something else–in this case, getting you onboarded into Fortnite and spending money.

Would be neat to figure out rotating eyebrow mechanisms for sure. I feel like many Muppets seem to have had like a low and raised position for eyebrows but not many that I can recall with super expressiveness.

Alright, it's ugly to look at and even worse to listen to, but I guess technically I've just made my first synthesizer?

Breadboard with two 555 ICs, 4 small trim pots, two little buttons, and a piezo beeper. Generates a square wave with the first pot adjusting frequency, second is volume, third is pulse width, fourth fucks with the timbre; the first button is a "key" to play noise; it's silent without, the second button is a pitch shift that just drops it a bunch while pressed (I am not smart enough yet to figure out how much)
