What a surprise! I wish we could replace Carney with someone who believes that the things they say should bear some consistent relationship with the actions they take

Everyone, meet my first MIDI controller! His name is Fred, and his idea of the perfect date is a few hours sending CC messages on channels 20 and 21

Hehehe. Well if you really want to go for accuracy, there's also variance in fuse times on real ones, and occasionally shells burst low. My very first show we had a 12-inch shell burst low enough to rain burning stars on us in the danger zone (genuinely the formal term for the launch area)
Common elements or characteristics of an aerial shell:

Lift charge. This charge propels the aerial shell upward.
Delay element. This element prevents the shell from functioning until the shell reaches the design burst height.
Burst charge. The delay element sets off the burst charge. The explosion of this charge breaks the shell casing and ignites and projects the shell’s pyrotechnic effects (stars).
Break. The break is the bursting of an aerial shell. Single-break shells burst only once. Multibreak shells produce two or more bursts in succession.
Stars. Stars are the pyrotechnic components within a shell that are ignited and projected by the burst charge to produce the design effect (patterns and colours).
Report. The report is the loud noise produced by a pyrotechnic article. Not all shells contain reports. Shells that contain reports produce a powerful shattering effect and are thus limited to 85 grams of flash powder. During set-up, mortars (single or in mortar racks) that contain report shells should be buried or placed separately from other shells and effects.
Burst height. The height at which a shell bursts is approximately 33 m per 25 mm of the nominal shell diameter.
Stars dispersion. The maximum distance that stars (pyrotechnic effects) are projected by the explosion of the burst charge is approximately 27 m in diameter per 25 mm of the nominal shell diameter.
4.6 Maintaining the perimeter of the danger zone

From the time of the arrival of the display fireworks until after the clean-up, you must control access to the danger zone. Maintain crowd control by all available means (e.g. security personnel, signs, barricades, natural boundaries, roads and fences).

The minimum distance from the fireworks articles to the public must be 30 m.

The danger zone must be in effect as soon as the fireworks are brought on site and must be maintained until the full perimeter (as per distances in Table 3-1 and Table 3-4, Chapter 3) of the display site is established.

i have a homemade midi controller and everything! another month gives me time to add more controls though
A small box is seen sitting on a desk. It has two knobs on the top, and its exterior is covered in orange, white, black, turquoise, and pink felt in irregular shapes adding up to a sort of harlequin pattern.

Don't expect some American groundhog to predict the future! That's just stupid. Look instead to the Canadian groundhog, Wiarton Willie! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiarton...
Text from a Wikipedia entry:
The story of Wiarton Willie dates back to 1956. A Wiarton resident named Mac McKenzie wanted to showcase his childhood home to his many friends, so he sent out invitations for a "Groundhog Day" gathering. One of these invitations fell into the hands of a Toronto Star reporter. The reporter travelled to Wiarton looking for the Groundhog Day event. None of the townspeople knew about a festival, but one suggested he check at the Arlington Hotel, the local watering hole. There the reporter found McKenzie and his friends partying and was invited to join them. The next day, the reporter lamented to McKenzie that he needed some kind of story to take back to justify his expenses. So McKenzie grabbed his wife's fur hat, which had a large button on the front, went out to the parking lot, dug a burrow in the snow and pronounced a prognostication (which no one remembers). The picture of Mac and the hat ran in the February 3, 1956 edition of the Toronto Star. A year later, about 50 people arrived for the festival. Half were reporters from various media, including the CBC and Canadian Press. Seizing on the opportunity, McKenzie invented a festival that has been added to over the years.

And just to confuse things a little more: POPULOUS (noun)
The box art of the Super Nintendo game "Populous". Amid lightning storms and lava, a wizard face and a skull face fly around over a castle. I've never played the game, so I have no idea what they're up to.

Go somewhere new?
A view from near the front of a car ferry, looking out over fairly calm water to some forested islands ahead. Some piping can be seen on the edge of the ferry, as can part of the ferry's front loading ramp, which is currently raised and has a safety net strung in front of it. In the foreground, an adventure motorcycle is almost entirely hidden underneath luggage, a guitar, a helmet, and a small plush fox.

They're amazing! I used to do that too. Eventually my partner and I actually got some, and rode them 5000km around the Rocky and Coastal Mountains, and it's one of the best things I've ever done.

Ahh, sounds like Hope would've been way west of you then. Found a picture of the mural your photo reminded me of:
Two adventure motorcycles, both loaded with gear, parked beside a building wall covered in a beautiful mural depicting a river flowing through a valley between forested and snow-capped mountains. Text on the mural reads "Native Art & Crafts". Beyond the building, a forested mountain can be seen in the near distance, shrouded in dense clouds that seem to cling around it against a much more distant overcast sky.

Amazing search engine Zehrs, just absolutely top quality

I'm not just a guitar player anymore. And it feels fucking amazing!
A partial screenshot of the interface of some Digital Audio Workstation software, showing the individual tracks of a piece of music I'm working on. To those familiar with such software, the names and structure of the tracks show that the music involves several sampled orchestral instruments a couple of synth sounds set to a repeating breakbeat.

You're a guitar tech, so you might like this -- my husband converted an old Washburn into a headless for me, which fits (with stand, fx/amp modeller, speaker, etc) in a gig bag for a 3/4 scale strat. So I can strap the whole thing down on top of my top bag and take it everywhere! :D

If I had $1 for every time my partner opened up some new prosumer network gear to find a manufacturing mistake that would've been catastrophic if we'd just plugged it in and used it first, I'd have $2. Not a lot, but.. (the uppermost heatsink is not where it should be)
A photo of the circuit board inside the case of a networking appliance. there is a heatsink on a chip in the middle of the board, but just above and left of that, there's another heatsink which is sitting partially on top of a transformer. That heatsink is supposed to be attached to a chip which can now be seen, bare, to the left of the first heatsink.

I've got a new favourite science term
A diagram showing several parallel lines (representing light) going into a concave mirror and being reflected. The reflected lines almost intersect at one point, but don't quite; the region where they all come closest to each other is labeled "circle of least confusion".

Safe in Kaslo!  A bunch of spectacular roads to get here.  But I am pretty done; words aren't coming easily.  So I'm going to sit with a beer and look at this view.

The Sunshine Coast is looking much more aptly-named today! We're off the ferry now, and sitting in a parking lot while we wait for all the ferry traffic to pass us so we'll hopefully get more open road ahead of us on the way to Earls Cove!
A picture of a sunny day on a mountainous shoreline. The mountain ridge is lush green, covered in temperate rainforest, with only a few isolated near-vertical slopes showing bare rock. The ocean is blue and calm, and the clouds are well-defined big fluffy ones with very visible texture, clustered around the top of the ridge.A picture of the Sunshine coast in broad sunlight. The sky is blue except for clouds around the mountain ridges and in the far distance. The picture is taken from the back of a ferry, on a car deck; bits of that deck are visible in the foreground, and the ferry's wake dominates the water, churning it to lighter blue with occasional smears of white foam. Further, forested islands can be seen in front of the more distant mountainous coastline.

Getting set up at our campsite! First jobs are of course to attach a tail to my motorcycle pants and get out the guitar. Later I think there's gonna be a tent or something but whatever

Lying on the gig bag are a patch cable and a small effects unit.

Love the BC ferries as a motorcycle rider.  Just skip the line and go to the front, no fuss; no need for reservations, we just go where we want. ^.^

Walking around the hotel room with my armour jacket zipped to the pants and hanging, I suddenly feel a sense of kinship with huge-tail fursuiters
A picture of me from waist to below the knees. I'm wearing motorcycle armour pants in olive green and black, and am reaching back to hold the matching jacket which hangs down from the back of my pants in order to keep the arms from dragging on the floor. The jacket has armour pads in it, so it's pretty heavy.
