I was in my local book store and was surprised to find Ocarina of Time sat in the manga section. Whoever is in charge of labels also has great taste 🙃 #nintendo #legendofzelda

It took almost 4 years, but Bombs vs Bots is finally released on Steam! If you hate AI robots, and love blowing things up - this may be the game for you 😊 There's a 10% discount for launch week, you can find it here: store.steampowered.com/app/4120110/... #IndieGames #Gaming #MadeWithGodot

True, I was just meaning more that I don't think having something more niche reduces the overwhelming odds against you. As even if there's not as many people catering to a small crowd, it's still a huge challenge to get your work in front of the people who are interested as they are then in the few

I'd argue that stacks the deck even more against you. You can ultimately calculate what the current trend is the best selling for a game, and if you make that game, you raise your odds of success notably. If you build the game you *want* to make, it may not [probably won't] fit that mould.

For a while #gamedev had been another thing on my lifetime list of "big dreams never followed through". A few proof of concepts here, a couple of games jams there, lots & lots of pen&paper plans. Well, tomorrow a demo for Idle Mining Manager, built in #godot launches on #steam

I made the jump a few years ago too, first release is sat in the queue waiting for Steam's build review to complete - still feels very surreal to have actually finished a game. Also, I do love watching number go up - added to wishlist :)

My little game is almost ready to be sent out into the world on its own 😭 I am back at the hospital next week for more blood tests, hopefully they go smoothly so I don't have to juggle medical anxiety with game release anxiety; I'm not sure I can handle both at the same time 😅

It's been 3 years, but we're nearly there! Play testing has been going well and [hopefully] there will be a release within the next month. The only thing left to do right now (other than more testing) is get the Steam page updated with fresh screenshots and an updated trailer 🥳 #indiegames

I definitely under estimated the work involved with a 3D project 😭 probably not best combined with the fact it's my first game that is bigger than anything game jam sized. When I set out I thought I could be done within 12 months - over 3 years later, here I am optimising in prep for release 😅

I'm hoping to try and contribute to the editor after I finish the game I am working on, so maybe it can be my first contribution 🎉

One thing I do wish you could do is filter the visual profiler items. I've been doing some GPU optimisation tonight and there's one particular thing I want to keep my eye on that is costing a lot, but it hurts my eyes going through the list over and over looking for it 😭

I came across that tonight - is it a new feature? As I really don't recall having seen it before. Would have been useful when I was dealing with some mouse propagation issues

The issue wasn't visible on my main machine (due to beefier hardware), but with the monitors open - it became very clear the issue was weapons being spawned by an enemy that were never cleaned up, as you can see the node count increase every attack cycle. Second image is after fixing #godot #gamedev

Don't sleep on how useful the debugger tab can be in Godot. I'm currently play-testing on lower power hardware and it revealed there are some performance issues on one specific level.

This is exactly what sold me on it. At the time, other engines felt a bit heavy / ropey in Linux, but Godot out of the box was super reliable and didn't require a bazillion dependencies

Ironically, I am really looking forward to playing it, been a big fan since the original released and feel like this will be the penultimate GTA - but haven't bothered to look at anything after the initial trailer and couldn't even tell you the release date 😂

I feel like it may be a Linux Big Picture issue, will test on a Windows desktop soon(ish), but if you want working LineEdit's on the Steam Deck, without draining a few hours of testing - this should get you there :) [3/3]

RobTheFiveNine @robthefivenine.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
I've tested this code on a Steam Deck, however, and it functions as expected on there. When running in Big Picture on a desktop, the gamepad_text_input_dismissed signal instantly fires with the submitted flag set to false and the text flag set to "". [2/3]

Sharing this snippet in case it is of use to anyone else running into Steam integration issues with text input with Godot I have a LineEdit node that is used for the player name, and was testing in Big Picture mode on Linux, but the Steam text input auto dismissed every time [1/3] #gamedev #godot

Nearing the end of the final level / boss encounter. Been almost 3 years in dev and hoping to release before December, but juggling IRL stuff alongside it is getting hard. I thankfully have a friend who tries to keep my spirits up though and who I look forward to finally getting to play it 💙

@kayhanley.bsky.social I don't know if you know, but Manchester (UK) is pretty nice this time of year, it would be a great place to take the band for a show 👀 note: I may have lied about it being nice, our weather is generally miserable, but we need Letters to Cleo 😭😭😭

FWIW - with the hardware shortage that has been mounting, £150 for 5TB isn't expensive, as prices have risen Astronomically (pun intended).

In addition to my house already reaching 30 degrees before it's even got that hot outside, I have been eaten alive by insects on one of my legs and I have no bite cream. This is definitely going to be worse than the first heat wave 😭 Anyone in a cooler climate want to adopt an ageing programmer?

I got Time Splitters bundled with the PS2 on launch. So many hours sunk into that game 😅 IIRC it came with Time Splitters, Midnight Club and a copy of the South Park movie on DVD.

Definitely much happier with this refactoring side quest 😅 The animation tree is way less fragile now and doesn't resemble a spider's web. Not much gained functionally, but at least any last minute changes that need to be done will be less troublesome now. #gamedev

One of the nested state machines that in itself nested a further 2-3 state machines / blend trees has now been condensed down to one blend tree with one state machine under it. Almost time to tackle the top level 🙏 #gamedev #godot

Ever so slightly cleaner, but hit some nasty duplicated state machines that are embedded a few layers down that I forgot existed 😅 quite painful to fix, but getting there... not a necessity for cleaning up this layer, but I may as well do it altogether 💀

Despite how terribly messy this is, it works. Yet... I can't shake off the need to play a game of Godot code smell Jenga and tidy it up, despite the fact it will introduce no real benefit given this subsystem is basically complete 😅 #gamedev

Nothing is going to stop me :) I usually ignore the noise online, this event just stung a bit more given my [first] game is going to be on the shorter side, but has still been just over 2 years in development. People don't seem to appreciate that even small games can require notable time to make 😩

RobTheFiveNine @robthefivenine.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
I've spent way too much time tonight reading the negativity around lengths of games. I'm going to pull myself out of the rabbit hole and remind myself and other fellow devs - even if not everyone gets our games or thinks they're too short, we're still getting to make things we think are cool 🙏

Some of the commentary around it has been crazy. I know better than to take people posting intolerable stuff on the Internet to heart, but as an indie dev reading some of the things people have been saying has been very disheartening.

I sacrificed a lot financially in way of going part time so I can dedicate more time to development, as well as expenses on the game, such as commissioning some icon design. It feels weird to read people saying (indirectly) that I am obliged to give that time, blood, sweat and tears away for free.

RobTheFiveNine @robthefivenine.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
The ideal game length (to me) is 2-4 hours, they feel the most comfortable to me in fit into my tight work schedule better. I am developing a game at the moment that is likely to fall in the 2-3 hour region, and has been in development for just over 2 years.

Out of curiosity, what was the problem / what did you try to do to fix it? Learning about how to do setup work and diagnose issues is a super useful skill to have in the pocket, a scary one to learn when you are dealing with pricey instruments though 😅

I've added my resolution scaler Godot addon to the new asset store, you should be able to find it if you search "Resolution Scaler" from the in-editor store ☺️ (also available here or on GitHub: store.godotengine.org/asset/robthe...). Even IF he was a true fan, given he understands that the streets would be shut down to accommodate him, any reasonable person would say "you know what, I'm going to sit this one out and let the people of New York fully embrace and enjoy this very rare moment". This man is not a leader, in any form.

I've been a Knicks fan for a long ass time. I can't recall ever having seen Donald Trump in the crowd before. It is absolutely despicable that he is making thousands of fans miss out on gathering and celebrating game 3 so he can get in front of the cameras and stroke his own ego. #NBA #LetsGoKnicks
