That gave us the afternoon to pop down to #rspb Freiston Shore and spend some time watching the Wryneck there. What a fantastic bird, showed really well feeding along the footpath and later sheltering from the drizzle in the weedy patch near the car park. 2/2 #lincsbiding #ukbirding

Yesterday's weather forecast plus having the #tourofbritain cycle race pass our front door gave us chance to juggle our work schedule. The whole race took just a few minutes to flash past.... 1/2

The Black Tern at Winter's Pond spent a lot of the time feeding while we were there yesterday. But did give some good perched views in between. Although it almost toppled itself off its perch while preening... #ukbirding #lincsbirding

Fife was definitely out of our range, but we still had to sit by for a month seeing the reports and photos waiting for a dip in temperatures for Stig, then he took it all in his stride.

A slightly cooler weather forecast for yesterday, so we finally made the trip to Gloucestershire to see the Long-tailed Shrike. What a bird! #ukbirding

Definitely a good year for them on our patch, at least 19 birds seen, four pairs seen carrying food, fledged broods of 3,4&4(or poss 5) seen, didn't catch up with the 4th pair at fledging. Although sadly the 2nd brood of one pair has been predated.

Alison got hearing aids in march '24, and hasn't looked back. Some of the first birding with them got a bit emotional, hearing Siskins in our garden on the first day, then a Firecrest & Goldcrests at Bempton after years of frustration.

Aside from the Spot Fly's, we had fun watching a couple of juvenile Treecreepers on our patch at the weekend, one here... #Lincsbirding

We did see a couple of the juvenile Spotted Flycatchers being fed by a parent, and plenty of them catching their own food flying up from branches and fenceposts, but this one was taking the unusual route, finding the easy pickings of a few ants and bugs off of the road. #Lincsbirding #UkBirding

Outrageous we know! Four pairs seen carrying food previously. Pretty certain of 11 fledged young from three of them - 4, 4(poss 5), and the 3 you saw. One female seen sitting on a second brood today too. We don't have access to the full site either....

Adult and juvenile Spotted Flycatcher, two of 14 seen locally this morning, 8 juvs. That's 11 fledged young so far, plus another pair in that area and one now sitting on a second brood! #Lincsbirding @lincsbirding.bsky.social #phonescoped

Can't say that I'd ever thought about Dragonfly poop before, I mean, who would? Until I watched this #phonescoped video back. Southern Hawker, Crowle Moors, Lincolnshire. #dragonflies @lincswildlife.bsky.social

Quick change of plan to cancel a plumber(who needs water?) meant we could go to Anderby for the Stone Curlew on Monday - what a super bird! In turn meant we were minutes away to dash to Huttoft when news of the Greenish Warbler broke! Came home fixed (bodged?) the leak ourselves too Win win win!

Sound up and you might be able to hear one of two Quails calling over the wind noise, at Searby Top yesterday evening. One of them even gave us a flight view! #lincsbirding #ukbirding Can you get a 'dead cat' for a phone? Would it even work?

Also at Chambers Farm Wood this Hornet with its lunch, we thought it might be munching a Damselfly at first but not at all sure about that. @lincswildlife.bsky.social

Found this on the inside of our moffice (summerhouse) roof, thinking it's a solitary wasp of some sort, but Alison isn't keen on things that buzz, can someone more knowledgeable confirm my thinking that it is harmless to her please. @manfrommarton.bsky.social maybe? Thanks very much.
