Madonna released her best record in twenty years. Evanescence is back in full force. RAYE gave us my album of the year. Muse with a fun & varied album. Lots of explorations with Michael and Janet too. Music has been such a wonderful thing in what’s otherwise a very deplorable and challenging year 💩

Album cover: RAYE - This Music May Contain Hope

I’ve been playing Destiny 2 with my expert friend, and he’s taking me everywhere from master dungeons to story missions and beyond. I wish I got into the game during its prime, but I’m having fun with him nonetheless. Also: 5080 runs it at 160 frames with maxed settings at 4K 😲 Super gorgeous game.

My favorite thing is the ability to create and share brew recipes. Slooowly trying to find the perfect 4:6 Kasuya method with the machine.

It’s been one week since I stowed away my Fellow grinder and the plethora of filter coffee equipment from our coffee table. Xbloom Studio is simply magical! 🤯 A consistent cup of V60 dialed to perfection with the press of a button.

Love the fashion choices in this game. Pokémon Legends ZA is so great, man. Easily the best single-player experience of the series for me. I love the smaller and manageable scale of the city (versus Scarlet’s enormously empty open world), love the fast-paced battles, and vibing sm with the quests.

It never gets tiring to see Deoxys obliterate full health bars

041

Mohammed Taher @robokick.tokyo · 15/10/2025

Finally… managed to reach Master Ball rank one day before Pokémon Legends ZA is released. Competitive battling is so mentally draining it’s insane.

I enjoy flexing my shiny legendaries in competitive fights lol

It took over 80 battles to reach Master Ball rank as I keep cycling between a win and a loss. You typically require 4 wins in a row to rise up from Ultra Ball to Master Ball rank.

I wanted to get to the Master Ball ranked tier because the game gives me a permanent ribbon on any Pokémon that wins a fight (any fight) on Master Ball tier.

Mohammed Taher @robokick.tokyo · 11/10/2025

Shinies… shinies everywhere. Got a shiny Deoxys from my friend in exchange for shiny Koraidon/Miraidon code. I ended up collecting 27 shiny codes by running all over Shibuya and Shinjuku every day. Best use of my time in Japan. 👌🏼 (gave most to friends, used 7 myself lol)

I stopped being open or vulnerable on social media because I have come to slowly despise all of it. But today is one of the best days of my life and there are not enough characters to properly say why BUT i tried. Seriously these five hours today were THIRTEEN friggin years in the making. Fuck yesss

Text from the image:

Keiji Yamagishi is the reason Brave Wave came to be, and sort of the reason I seeked Alex (@cvxfreak) to begin with. Ever since I met Yama-san in 2013, I have wished to be able to speak Japanese with him without interpreters. If you have been around Alex, you know how good his interpreting skills are. But there's something about walking around alone with a person and just... talking about music, making art, about childhood and sports and food and life that is just not possible to casually have when there's a cypher in between.

I started my Japanese journey in 2020, but specifically I started my weekly conversation lessons in 2023. While I'm quite far from being good, I stuck with it to this day. It was 3 lessons a week, then I had to change to one lesson because of time constraints. Anyway: I kept doing it even when I was feeling stuck, when I was depressed, when I was not making progress, I kept doing it all the time.

I met Yama-san last year but I couldn't speak much.
Our meeting had a lot of pauses and silence, a lot of Google Translate communication, and just a lot of no-communicating. This time around, I feel like a completely different person. I still can't believe that I spent 5 hours with him where I couldn't stop talking. I talked SO MUCH about everything. This is the day I had dreamt about back in 2013. What a privilege it is to be overwhelmed by a life I once
prayed for 😭😭😭

Woke up in the morning, took a Shinkansen to Kyoto, met up with Rockman creator @akblueprints.bsky.social & then immediately went back to Shinagawa lol. Had to make a pit stop at the altar though 🛐

Kyoto’s Pokémon Center is relatively empty compared with Shibuya’s so I finished my shopping there. Deoxys and Miraidon are the pillars of my Regulation J team so I had to get them 🥵

Full-on Pokémoning in Tokyo this time around

Got 7 of each shiny Ruins legendary in addition to two shiny Miraidon and two shiny Koraidon

Filling up the bag with all the missing JP Pokémon games from my collection

Ended up snagging 20 codes of Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon for my friends. 30k steps later: mission accomplished (one per person per shop, so I had to go all around Tokyo)

I’m slowly playing Pokémon Ultra Moon (reached the third island), but I went back to Scarlet & Violet for some shiny hunting and online battles. I replayed Violet on my Switch Lite to catch some missing legendaries, and I have to say that these games feel like enhanced ports on Switch 2.

Shiny Greninja doesn’t seem to like selfies

Shiny Flutter Mane. She’s grumpy as she’s always been accused of flipping the entire online battles meta on its head. The accusations are sadly correct but I still love her

010

Mohammed Taher @robokick.tokyo · 02/09/2025

Now that I’m done with Pokémon X and Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, I’m finally moving to the last 3DS game on my list: Pokémon Ultra Moon. I only played 13 hours of Sun back in 2016. I intend to do everything here… get the shiny charm by completing the Pokédex, shiny hunt every legendary (💀), etc.

040

Mohammed Taher @robokick.tokyo · 02/09/2025

I finished Pokémon X for the first time, then caught Mewtwo and Zygarde. I thought it was a really good Pokémon game! I wish we had a follow-up to it (aka the long-rumored and canceled Pokémon Z), but I look forward to see what the new Pokémon ZA will do for the Kalos region.

010

Mohammed Taher @robokick.tokyo · 25/08/2025

Pokémon X is wild. I only have one gym badge and they already gave me access to a great steel/ghost type, rock/dragon type (Bagon too!), fire/flying type, plus my water starter and a Kanto starter. Based game. Actually finding it difficult to assemble a team because there’s so many great choices.

I spent last night with my friend playing Pokémon. I transferred my Pokémon (some of them I’ve carried since Emerald in 2005) from Soul Silver to Black, then to Transporter > Bank > Omega Ruby. Eventually, I’ll take them to the Switch games. So many event Pokémon, rare mythicals, and shinies. 🥵

A photo showing three Nintendo 3DS consoles, three Switch consoles (to play Scarlet together), and one Nintendo DSi. We went crazy.

A photo of Pokémon Omega Ruby, showing a box of my old Pokémon that I transferred from Emerald and Soul Silver all the way to Omega Ruby. Shaymin, Mee, Arceus, Jirachi, shiny Shuckle, Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, shiny Pichu, Rigigigas, Raikou, Articuno, Rayquaza, shiny Dugtrio, and shiny Drowzee.

Mohammed Taher @robokick.tokyo · 21/08/2025

I finished both Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. Caught every legendary (twice) and EV trained a bunch of boys for the Battle Maison. I’m glad that I downloaded Pokémon Bank back then, as the 3DS app will allow me to transfer all my Pokémon to the Switch games. X is next… before Silksong is out 💀

I finished it a few days ago. It was so good! I loved how many past legendaries they put into it, too. I quick-replayed Alpha Sapphire to get them all. Soul Silver fantastic—I’d love to see a Let’s Go-esque kind of remake for it in the future. I wonder what’s gonna come after Gen 10 next year…

010

Mohammed Taher @robokick.tokyo · 11/08/2025

Dusted off my 3DS to play Pokémon Omega Ruby. I loved Ruby *so* much on GBA, but the last time I played it was way back in high school. I’m loving this remake! 2019’s Sword* was a step in the right direction, but I simply miss 2D Pokémon. :’) * (not enough characters to rant about Scarlet)

120

Mohammed Taher @robokick.tokyo · 04/08/2025

I went back to Pokémon Sword to finish the second DLC and catch all the legendaries that I missed. Pokémon Home is a godsend. 👌🏼 I’ll transfer them to Scarlet. It’s been years since I played competitively, but I might build a team for the new regulations – they permit the use of two legendaries 🐉

I’ll eventually dig through the hundreds of camera photos I took during my hikes in Zermatt. These are just iPhone shots, but I’m honestly shocked at how good modern smartphone cameras are. The hikes were so consuming—I’ve dreamt of nothing but hiking for the past three nights. 🧗🏻🏔️

Mirror selfie with my new hat and jacket. I learned the lesson: just because it’s cold-ish doesn’t mean I won’t get a sun burn from hiking!

Going through the two Pokémon Scarlet DLCs for the first time. I love that the second DLC allows us to catch past legendaries relatively easily, and you can even find past starters in the wild :0

I played Nightreign for an hour, knowing nothing about it. I’m launched into a game with two (seemingly experienced) players; all I do is follow them as we zip from boss to boss, miraculously surviving & leveling me all the way to 10. We died to the day 3 boss. I understand the game even less now

I finished my 4th rewatch of Mad Men yesterday. I remember being a bit disappointed with the ending when it aired, but I’m not sure why now. It’s a magnificent finale, just like the rest of the show. A top-tier series for me – every character is great, and all the arcs build & resolve masterfully.

It’s surreal to go from 20 frames with my 3080 Ti @ 4K resolution to 180~220 frames… with Path Tracing no less. (DLSS Balanced) We made fun of Jensen Huang in January when he unveiled 4x Frame Gen but it… just works? I know that this is a sample of one game, but I’m stunned.

000

Mohammed Taher @robokick.tokyo · 18/03/2025

It took forever to find GPU stock locally, but I’m glad I was able to upgrade from 3080 Ti to 5080. The former is a beast, but once I moved to a 4K screen, it proved difficult to run games well. Cyberpunk with full Path Tracing at max settings @ 120 frames is a dream. 3x frame gen, DLSS Quality 🥲🧡

MAYHEM is excellent. Gaga hasn’t been this on fire since ARTPOP. Abracadabra’s choreography alone is better than this entire decade of experimentation from her… but as an album, MAYHEM is a warm dark-pop blanket that we’ve been waiting for for so long. We’re so back!!!
