The quarry is known locally as Blue Quarry and is high up on the right hand side of the Coppermines valley as you go up the valley.

I often wondered why it was called Blue Quarry. Long since abandoned, but where rock falls from the quarry face, the exposed ‘new’ rock shows its true colour.

I took a photo from this same place last week, but today I returned with a tripod. Ok, it’s just an excuse, you’ve found me out. I just love being in the Coppermines Valley 😊

First I liked the wavy pattern of the rock, but I also liked the shadow cast by the ivy. Then I thought “why not feature them both together 😊

That’s a relief! I even tried hard not to whistle as I walked, because the elves that live in the mines do not like whistling and will do whatever they can to stop it. Whistling wasn’t allowed by the miners and although I remained on the surface, I thought it best to respect their wishes😊

You brush over it lightly, but leaving a scoop of ice cream? I might just have to live with the complaint 😊

I couldn’t resist a photo of the moon as it rose in the eastern sky over Coniston this evening. Not a full moon, that was last night, the Harvest Moon.

I always enjoy the walk from Coniston to Little Langdale, but this section through Moss Rigg Wood is the part I enjoy most.

Just because I really like this pastel of Bob Dylan that I had given, I thought I would share it here. 😊 “The times they are a changing”.

I may be developing something of a disused quarry obsession. I wonder if there’s a name for it 🤔

He was persona non grata around then wasn’t he. By the look of the background you could have had two kinds of sledging. Ah well, Moss Rigg tomorrow, I might try and fit in a day night ODI 🤣

It looks more like the Boxing Day Test than a T20, but great field placements for a power play 🤣

Full sympathy. Some clothing lives long in the memory, especially when lost in tragic circumstances. Around the same time I acquired a wide brimmed black hat and my Mum put it in the washing machine, knowing full well it would never be wearable again. Over 50 years and I still can’t wear a hat 😕

I can see the attraction, but in my defence, there isn’t really enough space in the bottom of Hodge Close. Oh and the other problem is that I was on my own. Don’t tell me that that just means I could have won easily 😂 I played a few games for Coniston when I was a teenager.

I had a fascinating afternoon in the old quarry at Hodge Close, mainly photographing rock and enjoying the total silence that comes with being at the bottom of a big hole 😊

I think this might be a Trooping Funnel, but I’m not a fungi expert by any means. Other opinions always welcome 😊
