Coppermines Valley, Coniston. The colours and the atmosphere. The essence of place in a photograph.

I’ve been experimenting With intentional camera movement again. I guess it’s more about capturing the essence of a place, rather than a precise representation.

There’s something almost fairytale like about this cottage hidden deep in the woods. The door, with names and initials carved in it from as far back as 125 years ago, only adds to the magic.

In Roudsea Woods this morning, I came across these ‘Dancing Trees’. Wasn’t that a song by ABBA? 🤔

The quarry is known locally as Blue Quarry and is high up on the right hand side of the Coppermines valley as you go up the valley.

I often wondered why it was called Blue Quarry. Long since abandoned, but where rock falls from the quarry face, the exposed ‘new’ rock shows its true colour.

I took a photo from this same place last week, but today I returned with a tripod. Ok, it’s just an excuse, you’ve found me out. I just love being in the Coppermines Valley 😊

First I liked the wavy pattern of the rock, but I also liked the shadow cast by the ivy. Then I thought “why not feature them both together 😊

I couldn’t resist a photo of the moon as it rose in the eastern sky over Coniston this evening. Not a full moon, that was last night, the Harvest Moon.

I always enjoy the walk from Coniston to Little Langdale, but this section through Moss Rigg Wood is the part I enjoy most.

Just because I really like this pastel of Bob Dylan that I had given, I thought I would share it here. 😊 “The times they are a changing”.

I may be developing something of a disused quarry obsession. I wonder if there’s a name for it 🤔

I had a fascinating afternoon in the old quarry at Hodge Close, mainly photographing rock and enjoying the total silence that comes with being at the bottom of a big hole 😊

I think this might be a Trooping Funnel, but I’m not a fungi expert by any means. Other opinions always welcome 😊

A walk to Porth Wen brickworks on Anglesey. Silica was mined just back from the shoreline to make fire bricks which were all taken out by sea. The site was operating between 1950 and 1949.

A walk out to Point Lynas on Anglesey this morning where I was lucky enough to spot dolphins and porpoise. Apparently dolphins aren’t friendly towards porpoises, but there were definitely both there for a while.

An old drystone wall, covered in all sorts of life. The second picture is a lichen that was growing there. Its common name is Devil’s Matchsticks.

One of the smaller fells in the Coniston area. I did the whole walk without meeting anyone. Oh, except for a brief “hello” with a paraglider about 50 feet above my head 🤣

Here’s a novel idea. That’s novel as in new, as opposed to book. But not a book cover, rather an album and that’s records not photos. Are you still with me?
