Dog owners, I have a problem. Bennie's **highly accurate** internal clock says that his first dinner is at 5:00 pm, and his second is at 9:00 pm. His clock does not recognize daylight savings time. He's sulking. Would you feed him an hour earlier to satiate the beast?

I love this one, where it says "one egg, infnite possibilites" while giving this family more eggs than anyone has any idea what to do with that are all either raw or hard boiled
Illustration in a 1950s vintage style showcasing a classic family breakfast scene. Parents and children are gathered around a table filled with various egg dishes. The room has pastel-colored walls and retro furniture. The text reads: 'One Egg, Infinite Possibilities!'.

Unleashh the power within: eat egs
Vector poster with a minimalistic design of a cracked egg, revealing a golden yolk inside. The background is a simple, flat blue. The text below the egg reads: 'Unleash the Power Within: Eat Eggs'. The font is modern and sleek.

I think DALL-E 3 misspellings are cute tbh. Last year it couldn’t even get letters. It’s growing so fast ❤️ (images are propaganda for water lol)
Illustration-style 1950s propaganda poster with a muscular man of Asian descent and a woman of African descent, both in period attire, proudly showcasing their water bottles. A ribbon banner reads 'Water: The Fuel of the Future!'Photo-style 1950s propaganda poster featuring a diverse group of people in vintage clothing holding water bottles, with the caption 'Stay Hydrated, Stay Healthy!' set against a vibrant background with sun rays emanating from the top.

Most people never revisit their notes. They make decisions and come up with ideas based on recent memory, vs. a lifetime of experience and insight.
Photo of a modern office setup with a computer monitor displaying multiple digital notes and documents. As they are being viewed, they start to swirl and distort towards a black hole that appears at the center of the screen. Around the desk, other physical notes begin to levitate and spiral into the monitor's black hole, symbolizing the unstoppable pull of the void.

Aside: I like how this version of the meme does not have an IQ bell curve in it. To me, the image evokes someone trying to level up from their simple system, struggling to hold a bunch of moving parts together, and then defaulting to the simple system with what they learned.

An excellent feature in Notability that I'm shocked hasn't made it into other note taking apps: - You can record audio while typing or handwriting notes - In the playback, clicking on a specific part of your notes jumps to the timestamp in the recording

Reading about Clippy Seems like a good chunk of the complaints come down to "don't make me tell you twice." Besides that its ability to accurately guess user intent + surface relevant material were probably super constrained by the tech gizmodo.com/how-i-made-clippy-lovab…
Just OCR it plz Bluesky, the image text is in the link I shared tho

Rob, explain Continuous Onboarding right now, in one breath, standing on one foot. Btw I'm thrilled to be writing a book about it, covering behavioral science / game design principles + case studies so you can see your software apps through my lenses. I'm accepting clients while I'm writing 😄

If you invest in user acquisition without a product designed to reliably keep them invested, you're wasting money and effort that would be better directed to product improvements. Continuous onboarding is core to your company's bottom line (charts are generated to make a point, ignore numbers)

I want heat vision, personal dashboard HUDs so my life feels like a video game of my creation, never forget a name, get live translation / subtitles in a multilingual convo, to leave digital sticky notes and widgets around the house... but monitors everywhere is cool AR too I guess 🤷‍♂️

Bennie is a little too big to be a lap dog, but that's all he wants to be. Unfortunately, I've failed to find a desk chair wide enough to include him. So I have to choose between screen space enhanced productivity at my desk or cuddles on the couch and more casual work. iVision Pro fixes this.

I've been playing so much Tears of the Kingdom lately that I got weirdly excited by the #WWDC23 announcement that they were going to add topographic views to Maps. Legend of Zelda made topographic maps click in a way Geology 101 never could.

I think it’s a bit of a cope to say things like “just writing things down means I’m more likely to remember them,” “the best ideas will come up again naturally,” & “I just need safety.” They haven’t done what needs to be done to experience the benefits of a compounding mind

Great piece. I particularly like the bit about how people maintain notes systems for a sense of psychological safety, and the ways that note taking apps can break that trust, either through search not being as good as you thought it was or something not actually being there. However…

Exploring the world in Tears of the Kingdom, seeing the fog of war lifted as I skyrocket out of each zone’s tower, makes me wish there was a way to replay a time lapse of the map being filled out so I could recall my adventure.

Different emotions distort our perception in different ways. For example, when we're anxious and worked up, our internal dialogue gets heightened verbal capabilities and becomes very convincing in its dumb planning and problem solving attempts (see the worry section of the flowchart)

Gonna post more dog, why not, it’s Bennie’s 7th birthday (we think). We adopted him so don’t know exactly how old he is, but we clipped his nails and counted the rings. Here’s Bennie hanging out with my grandma in this position for 20 minutes without so much as a single squirm. Laid back boi.

Aha! I can finally search my own posts, and use multiple words! This code is really dumb, but it works. First I fetch all of my posts. Then I filter it for posts that contain all of the words I put in my CLI arguments. Then I convert the URI to a URL using this GPT-3 template.

Discourse around who or what to ban is object level, and distracting them from getting to the point where everybody's feedback is actionable by released tooling Expressing criticism of the system is fine, but a ton of research has gone into their hypotheses and we'll need to wait and see

Creative work demands both implementation and evaluation, and chatbots need you to evaluate their response at each step. Interfaces that enable you to directly implement for a period allow you to see a train of thought through, whereas you can forget where you were going with a chatbot's broken flow

Rob Haisfield @robhaisfield.com · 01/05/2023
She also points out in the intro that users don't know in advance what the chatbot knows. GUIs aid discoverability better than command lines or chatbots GuidedTrack shows available commands vs. requiring you read documentation. This approach is referred to as "dumping the parts bucket on the floor"
