Robert Halcrow @roberthalcrow.bsky.social · 30/07/2026You might be right. It also helped maybe that I didn't see a lot the Billboard charts ppl, unless they turned up on Entertainment USA or a video on ToTP. Also a time when a record would come out Stateside way ahead of here, so UK was playing catch up, unavailability making things more desirable. 010
Robert Halcrow @roberthalcrow.bsky.social · 30/07/2026 was where the good stuff was. UK was too silly, too much dressing up daft, too many fads. More soul, funk and (post) disco with Gambo. I bet if I checked though Elton was doing ok over there too. 110
Robert Halcrow @roberthalcrow.bsky.social · 30/07/2026I haven't heard this in years but I remember I hated it at the time, specifically that kbd intro/link bit. It seemed to be on the radio all the time too. I was pretty convinced, as a 12 year old, the UK charts were stupid whereas the US charts with Paul Gambaccini on Saturday afternoons... 110

Robert Halcrow @roberthalcrow.bsky.social · 18/07/2026I was there tonight. It was a brilliant programme and Wonderwall at the end seemed to fit really well. It was a great arrangement and people enjoyed it, alongside the Gershwin, Ravel, Finzi, Copland and the new commission from Josephine Stephenson. Black Dyke sounded great outside too. 010
