I hold Stephen King’s original novel and the Brian De Palma film near and dear to my heart. My Dad introducing me to Carrie when I was 13 was what got me into horror. Mike Flanagan’s Carrie mostly works, but some of the changes are questionable.

Mike Flanagan’s 'Carrie' Is a Riveting Remix and Risky Expansion of Stephen King’s Classic Novel | Review
Mike Flanagan's Carrie makes plenty of changes, both for better and worse, but his Prime Video series still remains true to Stephen King's novel.

Studios treating actual scenes in a film as paid DLC is where I'm drawing the line. I have watched literally every minute of live-action MCU material Disney has released, but if they start putting out different cuts for IMAX and premium theaters, I'm out.

This week, #Reacher kicks off a whole new era with the premiere of #Neagley. I profiled Alan Ritchson and Maria Sten on their evolving partnership, both on and offscreen, and what's next for Prime Video’s hit action-thriller franchise.

I have it at #7. It’s real close. Some of the best MCU performances ever in a movie that’s actually about something. Liked it even more the second time I watched. I haven’t bought a Marvel movie in forever, but I’d really like to get a 4K disc.

The Deadline article this sources makes no fucking sense. Can’t decide on a premise?! The premise is that it’s The Muppet Show!! I really hate Disney sometimes. (And, by that, I mean most of the time.)

We're celebrating Brian's 41st birthday with a deep dive into Hellbound: Hellraiser II with special guest @robertbtaylor.bsky.social. It’s arguably the only sequel that truly expands on Barker’s vision. Do you agree, or do you have a soft spot for the later (very messy) sequels?

Here's a fun one! I guested on Pittsburgh's own @cinemapsychospod.bsky.social this week to talk about one of my favorite horror sequels of all time — Hellbound: Hellraiser II. Host Brian Cottington and I do a deep dive on Kirsty, Julia, the Cenobites, and the ending the movie SHOULD have had.

Really wish they’d make another one of these with Jamie Clayton. She could be the Brian Johnson or Sammy Hagar of horror icons — the replacement who actually worked out! She’s so good in this.

I’m rewatching the very good 2022 Hellraiser, and the way that composer Ben Lovett starts weaving in Christopher Young’s original Hellraiser theme about halfway through the movie is a thing of absolute beauty.

Hey, I can finally weigh in on Saltburn, which I found to be a trashy delight. Barry Keoghan really is one of our more interesting actors. (Though I still think his performance in The Banshees of Inisherin is his best.)

On one hand, this is exciting. On the other, I have questions: How many stories are new vs. older republished stories. Why Kickstarter? We couldn't get a publishing house behind this? Will that affect the quality the books? I've long wanted a true Books of Blood repub, but not as a pricey add-on.

Even at that age, he could still throw a Major League-calibur breaking ball that seemed like magic from the batter's box. It was always my favorite day of the year for those couple of years, and it's why I'd always feel nostalgic when I'd see Tommy mentioned somewhere. May he rest in peace.

Every year, for media day, he would throw BP to members of the press. He'd groove you some slow-ish straight balls so you could put some balls in play, and then he'd throw you a few curveballs that none of us could come close to touching.

Back in my newspaper days, I spent a few years covering the Triple-A Charlotte Knights part-time. At one of my first games, this nice middle-aged gentleman sat down next to me in the press dining room & started talking baseball. Turns out it was Tommy, who was a PR exec for the Knights at the time.

As someone who happily owned Omen III: The Final Conflict on VHS tape back in the day, the Sam Neill news hits hard. No matter how big his role, from lead to supporting, Sam always made every movie he was in better.

It is my strong personal belief that Evil Dead movies should not be "about something." They should be pure exercises in style ... spook-a-blasts, to use Sam Raimi's parlance. Evil Dead Burn is the second time they've tried to make Evil Dead allegorical, and it just does not work for me.
000
Robert Brian Taylor @robertbtaylor.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
Evil Dead Rise isn’t funny, per se, but it is darkly playful in a way that recalls Raimi’s trilogy. The other two, not so much.

Bale's age maybe works better for the prequelly stuff, athough he's actually only a few years younger than Pacino was when he shot Heat. IDK this stuff makes my head hurt.
