The global share of wind (8.1%) and solar (6.9%) together exceeded hydropower for the first time in 2024. Hydro remains the largest source of clean electricity (14.3%) followed by nuclear (9.0%). Other renewables (bioenergy and geothermal power) contributed 2.6% of global electricity in 2024.

Currently, no countries in the Pacific, outside of AU, NZ, & NC, host any significant amount of popular content (Top 1,000 websites) in-country. It is not sustainable for every country to host content. But it is beneficial if some key hubs, like Guam. Content closer to end users = faster access.

The reason: Guam has the most number of subsea cables connecting to it per capita than any country in the Pacific. This provides them an opportunity to be a content locality hub. Hosting content in-region or in-country increases Internet quality and performance considerably.
