iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Gator Joes Slop Shack is still one of my fave places we've ever written, and now you can visit too in The Forgotten God - our cosy & chaotic sandbox 5e campaign! It's fully funded on Kickstarter, so come enjoy the wild magic swamp vibes & get your copy here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/r-n...

A little preview of some of the activities at the slop shack in the campaign book! Food, shady NPCs, mini games, betting, spies, and a wild magic raid 😱✨️

The man himself! And the incarcerated version 😔 The player characters visit the slop shack for their first long rest, and there's a possibility that he gets taken away to Stillstone prison during an encounter there. So I made the prison Joe as an extra drawing for the campaign book.

I needed to make this graphic for the campaign book to give game masters a clear idea of what the slop shack is like in practical terms - loads of boats to hop across surrounding a central shack that everyone parties at!

Some items off the menu even appeared in our stretch goal recipe zine for the 2021 guide! We still make bog broth every winter - its a hearty warming stew 🥰

The menu we wrote for the slop shack hasn't changed since 2018, but the graphics have! I made it look like an American style burger joint for the new campaign book.

We published the Traveler's Guide to the Soddenweald in 2021 and made this map as part of it. You can see Gator Joes features on the far left side of the map here!

And aerial view of the same slop shack!

This was the first iteration of Gator Joes! We made a papercraft version for our 3rd ever Patreon drop. That was 8 years ago now, and tbh it still totally holds up - just needs a lil colour 😊

@shaferbrown.com just reminded me of when we commissioned him to draw Gator Joe’s Slop Shack many years ago, and Joe is still a staple feature of our DnD campaign book on Kickstarter. Allow me to take you on a Gator Joe lore tour... 🧵

But in this adventure, you, the adventurers, might just awaken the forgotten god...

It's the symbol of Tor, a god who was forcibly put into a magical slumber, his history erased by the colonisers who then settled on the hill that was his shell.

We unlocked the patterned end papers for the book, and they feature a very special symbol...

Why did we write this? When players first arrive in the Soddenweald, they experience the wonder and magic of the wild surges, and then a group of monks descend to capture those who caused it. It’s the party’s first big encounter, and it leaves a lasting impact on the rest of the campaign.

Wild mages are persecuted for things out of their control, and it’s no secret that the ones most targeted are the swampfolk native to the region. They are the worshippers of Tor, and they’re punished for it by Hush and his zealous monks.

That prison is called Stillstone. He calls it a ‘treatment facility’ but many who go in never come out, and those that do are changed - either becoming ardent members of the order, or broken husks of their former selves. They never speak of their time inside.

In the Soddenweald, wild magic is abundant because an old turtle god named Tor slumbers nearby, and his magic seeps into the marshy waters. The leader of the local Silent Order chapter, Albus Hush, knows this.

His eternal sleep is watched over by the Silent Order in the Silent Citadel, who send missionaries across the world to preach against religion - “See what chaos it causes when we put our faith in gods?”

300 years ago a war broke out between two major gods: Hemel, who created humans, halflings and hemelings, and Terrorius, the devil lord. Hemel was slain, but eventually Terrorius was put into a magical slumber.
