Our boss asked us to remind you that we sell canes but we were out of ideas. Explore the full range: rnib.in/Canes
That scene from The Simpsons where Lisa is giving a presentation on stage. We’ve changed the presentation slide to read, “We sell canes.” She’s lit up by a spotlight shining down on her from out of shot and she wears her trademark orange dress and pearl necklace. In the foreground, we can see the top of the audience’s heads.

If you see a blind or partially sighted person using a long cane, here are a few simple do’s and don’ts that can help make getting from A to B, a whole lot easier for us.
Text reads: "Cane safety tips. Do. Give us space, so we can navigate around you. Tell us if you're moving near us, eg 'I'm passing on your left.' Keep pavements clear of obstacles, like bins, bikes and litter. Let us walk independently, we've got this! Give us grace if we knock into you. It's an accident, we likely can't see you." Each tip is in a separate yellow box on a green background.Text reads: "Cane safety tips. Don't. Jump over our cane, it's not a skipping rope. Grab hold of our cane or move it for us. We really need it, so let us decide how to use it." Each tip is in a separate yellow box on a pink background. There's also a photo of a person using a long cane on a pavement, and a cloud shaped bubble saying "thank you" inside.

Let's talk about red flags, and now We're not talking about dating. We're talking about emojis. Emojis are fun, but every emoji is read aloud by screen readers. Too many, or using them within sentences, can make posts much harder to follow. Are your emoji habits are giving green or red flags?
Emoji green flags” and “Emoji red flags into
two columns with two crossed flagpoles hold a large green flag on the left and a large red flag on the right.
Below the green flag, three green-text recommendations are listed:
- “Use emojis that are easy to read anywhere”
- “Know what your emoji actually means (it matters)”
-“Keep it intentional, one emoji can say a lot!”
Below the red flag, three red-text warnings are listed:
- “Using emojis before important messages”
- “Emojis in the middle of sentences or replacing words”
- “Using emojis as bullet points”

It’s hot out there 🫠 here’s our advice for keeping your eyes healthy during this heatwave (and, tbh, all year round).
“Protect your eyes from the sun. 1. Wear sunglasses. Choose a protective style with CE quality mark or British Standard.2. Check glasses have a UV filter. Most prescription glasses come with a built-in clear UV filter. Check with optician. 3. Consider eye shields. Eye shields offer more protection from the sun and are useful for glare. 4. Take care outdoors. Wear sunglasses if you work outdoors or at the beach, fishing, or on holiday. 5. Be safe in the sun. Find shade, wear a hat and never look directly into the sun.” Dotted around the images are illustrations of the sunshine with long rays as though it’s shining down on the graphic.
