John @rncaptain.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Sure enough, they screwed up the IV. Anyone saying this is unprecedented is wrong. This has happened many times before because the people doing it are often poorly trained. It makes the inhumane barbaric. apnews.com/article/chri...apnews.comChrista Pike is in critical condition after Tennessee’s failed execution attempt, her lawyers sayAttorneys for Christa Pike say the death row inmate is still alive but in critical condition a day after the state's failed attempt to execute her for the 1995 murder of a woman. 010

John @rncaptain.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I guess if you're spending your own money to campaign to get the law changed so you can execute someone, you're more likely to care about how they're stored. 010
John @rncaptain.bsky.social · 01/10/2026That's possible, for sure. Drugs stored in extreme temps can have less effectiveness. It isn't quite like milk that goes bad though. Many drugs have a relevant shelf life beyond the expiration date. Poor storage is also suggestive of people handling these things that have no clue what they're doing. 110
John @rncaptain.bsky.social · 01/10/2026There are many websites that record these failures, here is one. Capital punishment is already an inhumane form of punishment, and the fact that it is often done by incompetent officers exacerbates the trauma. deathpenaltyinfo.org/executions/b...deathpenaltyinfo.orgBotched Executions | Death Penalty Information CenterThe Death Penalty Information Center (DPI) is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to serve the media, policymakers, and the general public… 021
John @rncaptain.bsky.social · 01/10/2026If it is not a terrible IV placement as the culprit, it is likely someone not knowing how to dose things right, leaving them with less than lethal doses. 210
John @rncaptain.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Speaking of bad IVs, that is usually the culprit. Most of the time it is an inexperienced person doing the IV, & they just end up blasting meds into the skin tissue. It is very painful. There are records of people poking inmates for a long time trying to get access & then still screwing it up. 110
John @rncaptain.bsky.social · 01/10/20263) a cardioplegic. Fancy way of saying something to stop the heart. Usually potassium, As the heart can't handle a bunch all at once. This burns like hell in the skin if the IV is bad. 110
John @rncaptain.bsky.social · 01/10/20262) a paralytic. This does two things at once. It stops the diaphragm from moving so they stop breathing. It also makes them not move any muscles so the people watching think it is peaceful. If the sedative is not strong enough, it is not peaceful, it is like being trapped in a suffocating body. 120
John @rncaptain.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Many states run into issues finding this because many pharmaceutical companies don't want death associated with them. You end up w/ states in the US buying them from sketchy places internationally, like when US governor Pete Ricketts spent $54k of state money but had them blocked on inport. 110
