Lions for Lambs was also a mediocre film, and I agreed with everything it had to say. Most faith based films are rotten, and the ones that aren’t are the ones that don’t shove it down your throat. I’m supposed to give good reviews to films that espouse my own highly liberal views, and I refuse.

I don’t care if I agree with a movie’s message if the quality isn’t good, and 99% of narrative films that are explicitly designed for making an ideological point are bad. Every single positive review for Digger and Don’t Look Up gave points for their messages. I don’t care about their message.

I just had a long and elaborate dream in which I was really enjoying the Final Fantasy remake series on Xbox. I’m tempted to try it again now that the whole series is on sale. For reference, I’m a total whore for FF, have been since the SNES, but FVIIR lost me partway through via story bloat.

I’ve just never seen what’s so wrong with it. Branagh chews the scenery, Smith and Kline have some pretty ingenious adventures, and there’s a giant mechanical spider. Plus Salma Hayek? That alone makes it at least as good if not better than Independence Day.

Under the Silver Lake is atrocious, one of the biggest sophomore misfires in film history, but I’m honestly surprised to find someone who didn’t like It Follows. You are of course welcome to do so, but you’re also the first person I’ve personally interacted with who does.

I thought about that, but someone pointed out that the filmmaker generally has no say in promotion. Of course there must be exceptions to that, but I decided not to punish a very good film just because corporate are a bunch of shit heels.

I know exactly who needs to hear this, but wanting to turn a death sentence into a public spectacle to placate some and intimidate others doesn’t make you big and tough. MAGA has some very odd definitions of strength, such as the idea that an obese 80-year-old is an action movie star.

I haven’t seen TT and we know how I feel about DLU. I was hoping for Inarritu to be up to his usual level and just didn’t think he was. I was totally fine with the concept of the twist, but the execution confused me. Which must mean it was bad, because I am a super genius, of course.😸

In fairness, I liked it a lot more than DLU. It had some excellent conceptual ideas and Cruise Peter Sellers-ed his ass off. I just thought a lot of things got lost between the idea and the reality. Particularly, I thought it would have been much better if the twists had not been twists.

I got halfway through it at 16 (I’m ancient) and didn’t get it at all, but what I saw of it did not convince me it should beat arguably the most impactful mainstream war movie ever made. It’s How Green Was My Valley beats Citizen Kane levels of stupid.

In a just world, this movie would outgross whatever cookie cutter thing Disney is releasing this year. It’s not perfect, but they took a hell of a swing, and I appreciate that the story doesn’t pander or try to be all things to all people.
