ON THE BONES OF BATALA is a folk- and body horror tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) inspired by the pre- and colonial histories, cultures, and folklore of the Tagalog region in the Philippines. To play, there has to be at least three players: one Game Master (GM) and two Players. #RPGSEA #KiwiRPG

Patrick O'Malley's book about Irish White Supremacy in an American context in the nineteenth century is a must-read on this denial of Irish colonial complicites www.upress.virginia.edu/author-corne...

What surprised you the most in the process of writing your book?

I knew that many Irish nationalist writers were aware of conversations about race in the United States, sometimes in order to rhetorically (and occasionally duplicitously) to advance Irish rights in the United Kingdom. What I hadn’t realized was how many Black intellectuals and writers were also paying close attention to the Irish situation. Both Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs knew that the Irish nationalist convicted felon John Mitchel had arrived in the United States—and both condemned his quick affiliation with the most virulently racist theorists of the American racial state and, later, the Confederacy. They were noticing which aspects of the Irish condition translated—and which didn’t.

What’s your favorite anecdote from your book?

I’m not sure I would call it a favorite anecdote, but it’s a telling one: I’m fascinated by the fact that Oscar Wilde, during his 1882 lecture tour of the United States and Canada, visited the aging Jefferson Davis in Mississippi. Wilde was apparently reading Davis’s Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government during his travels and expressed a desire to meet Davis. After the visit, Wilde was quoted by a newspaper saying, “The case of the South in the civil war was to my mind much like that of Ireland today.” It’s a rather different representation of the relationship between Irish anticolonial activism and the American racial state than we often imagine.

I originally developed "On the Bones of BATALA" for the FÖLK-LORE Game Jam back in 2021 (it was then called "On the Bones of Bathala" before I learned Bathala was possibly a Spanish misspelling). bit.ly/otbob #bonesofbatala #RPGSEA

Rare official update post on this account, but I needed to work with the character limit. Thank you all again so much www.canva.com/design/DAGv1...

"So a few months ago, the dev team at Sword Isles Studios were invited to speak at a creative and art scene event in Malaybalay, Bukidnon during Kaamulan Festival. We put Gubat Banwa's Quickstart+ on sale to raise funds, and were fortunate enough to meet our goals. I wanted to do a little something as a thank you to the community for the trust and support we’ve been given, and wrote a little travelogue detailing our trip.

We hope you all enjoy this little token of thanks.

With Gratitude and Violence Until Glory,

Dyl, Sword Isles Studios Project Lead"

I made a video about Of Promises and Paper Airplanes by @rmbananas.bsky.social !! It's a TTRPG about the Beloved, who is leaving, and the Lover, who is being left behind, and the promises they made to each other. And its layout is like no other. youtu.be/qWWKTaYiFUs?...

when ur girlfriend tells u to come over so she can "rearrange ur guts" but ur a manananggal and she's a med student 💀✂️

A drawing depicting a med student studying her manananggal girlfriend’s intestines, which are laid out on layers of tarp and plastic sheets. The whole piece is in warm shades of yellow, orange, and brown.
The student has books, notes, and a box of used bloody gloves to her left. Her gloved right hand is placed on the thigh of the manananggal’s detached lower body, with one leg casually crossed over each other. Intestines and stylized blood pour from the latter’s pelvis, staining her jean shorts red.
The manananggal’s upper body and wings rest against a pillow and a drawer. She is scowling and looking slightly peeved at her phone. Next to her is a water bottle and a plate of street food, with an uneaten stick of dugo

If you need one more tangible thing to do today, we're still driving e-SIM donations for ConnectingGaza through @cartoonistcoop.bsky.social. Donate an e-Sim to someone in Palestine and get art from a member cartoonist in exchange. cartoonist.coop/esims4gaza (art by @juangeedraws.bsky.social)

Inkling holding out an sim card with the Palestinian flag design under the chip. The other hand has a pencil with papers flying all over. Nibford is yelling "E-SIMS FOR GAZA!" in a speech bubble, with text above reading, "donate e-SIMs and get art from us!" Art is by Juan Gee.

One year of this genocide on Palestine. An estimate of 100,000 dead, 902 families wiped out, 175 journalists murdered, 93% of schools destroyed, 89% of hospitals destroyed, 75,000 tons of bombs dropped on innocent civilians.
